1  Java Game APIs & Engines / jMonkeyEngine / Re: UiButton events on: 2005-01-23 15:23:30
Not sure if I got this right. Created a couple of UiButtons and added them to a node and attached to the rootNode which is updated every cycle. Created a InputHandler but dont seem to figure out how to catch the button press event from the buttons (you can catch KeyBoardActions which is not the same).

I created an AbsoluteMouse and set the cursor etc and then added that to the InputHandler but cant see the mouse either.

Any ideas where to go next?

I have looked around to figure out how to detect when a UiButton is pressed. Does anybody know of an example or how this is done?

3  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Maze3D demo on: 2004-06-05 15:35:46
Hi, I tried to look at this demo, but there is only an image and a documentation (which seems to be in Romanian - forgive me if I got this wrong) Huh. When is the code (or program) going to be availabe? Any chance of translating the document so we can read it?

I have tried the obj loader to load .obj files and it works great. The only problem is that it doesnt load any textures. does anybody know how to load the textures?

Great job and fantastic effort which was well overdue  Wink. You would have thought some of the old hands would got this sorted sooner!

JCD, might be worth looking at this demo as I am not getting anywhere fast. Where can i find the demo?
14  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: Questionably effective terrain generator on: 2004-01-29 15:49:26
I have had problems creating terrains with and without texture Sad. Judging by the low responses to this problem, I am getting the feeling that may be there is not an efficient or working way in xith to do this :-/. hope i am wrong.
15  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: Quake 3 demo released on: 2004-01-28 12:33:47
The way I understand it, it seems that you get all faces of the map and make them colliders. So everything in the world seems to have collision attached to it.

If this is right, how do I identify the object I have collided with? For example, how do I know if I have hit a box not a wall or a door.

tomcat.
16  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: Quake 3 demo released on: 2004-01-28 12:05:33
Wink Great work, its really good. I noticed one thing though. When I walk up the stairs  and go over the edge, I seem to be still in mid air (i.e. I dont fall down to the floor) and have to press "G" . Is this a feature?

Another thing is how do I add an object in the world (say a box) and attach collision detection to it  Huh If you have answered it in another thread, a refernce to that would be great.

18  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: Moving around a scene using cursor keys on: 2003-12-08 21:21:20
having worked out (I think) how to do a first person shooter (thanx Preston) I have realised that I was after something slightly different. I have a car and I want to see my car (all of it not just through the windscreen). I think this is called 2nd or 3rd person perspective (not sure about the name).

I thought a way of doing this is  by placing the camera several units behind the car and have it following the car. Any suggestions as what is the best way of doing this?

22  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: Moving around a scene using cursor keys on: 2003-12-06 08:23:03
Thanks Preston, I will try this.  When I move around using cursor keys, I have x,y,z values but no angles so I guess I can just pass 0. Is this right?

Another thing is that where do I attach the camera to. Do I add it to the locale or do I add it to the root BranchGroup? (to get a kind of first person view)

23  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Moving around a scene using cursor keys on: 2003-12-05 14:41:27
I have tried to create a rotation object and add that to the view in order to turn the view allowing me looking around and walking around the scene. However this doesnt work. Huh

Does anybody know how to add navigation to the scene using cursor keys and/or mouse?

24  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: Texturing Terrain on: 2003-12-05 13:28:19
Sorry for being a bit thick here, but I dont set the texture co-ordinates. I have used the Terrain example from sith3d and made some simple modifications. Here is some of the things I have done

Quote

             TextureLoader.tf.registerPath(".");
             TextureLoader.tf.registerPath("..");
             Texture2D texture = (Texture2D)TextureLoader.tf.getMinMapTexture("stonex.jpg");

                 pa = new PolygonAttributes(PolygonAttributes.POLYGON_FILL,PolygonAttributes.CULL_BACK,0);
                 Appearance a = new Appearance();

             mat = new Material();
                 mat.setAmbientColor(0.5F, 0.5F, 0.5F);
             mat.setLightingEnable(true);
                 //a.setMaterial(mat);
                 a.setTexture(texture);
                 a.setPolygonAttributes(pa);
           shape.setAppearance(a);

                 shape.setBoundsAutoCompute(false);
                 shape.setBounds(new BoundingSphere(new Point3f(0.0F, 0.0F, 0.0F), 100000F));
                 addChild(shape);

Any ideas what I am doing wrong Huh

change  POLYGON_LINE to POLYGON_FILL

I have done this. But this doesnt solve the tiling problem. I get the same texture stretched across the whole terrain instead of being tiled to each polygon. Any ideas whats happening?

Ok, managed to workout how to fill the area with the texture map, but discovered that the example doesnt allow tiling of the texture. :-/

Is it possible to tile a texture to the terrain  Huh.

OK, that would be good.  sourceforge's cvs is unpredictable at times.
30  Game Development / Shared Code / Re: Puppy Games announces SPAGHETTI GUI LIBRARY on: 2003-09-16 17:50:10
Sourceforge is hopeless. I lost so much time to get logged into it (still no success) I think it only works sometimes!!!

Is there anywhere else I can get the code from?  Huh I am really looking for the latest version of the spgl (including Spaghetti)

A suggestion:

Have you considered this site: www.dev.java.net

Its pretty reliable and no major problems with it.
