Pretty ambitions game:

And probably others from funcom.
2  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Chrome Web Store on: 2011-02-19 17:25:33
Is there an effective way to complain to Google about the store?
3  Game Development / Artificial Intelligence / Re: (in)Finite State Machines (or: my first steps in the AI domain) on: 2011-01-20 18:10:30

this is a very old topic but so useful!

t_larkworthy suggests using rules engines since FSMs don't really handle unanticipated situations. This could be a good solution but I've read on decision trees and I was wondering if it's a good or better solution to rules engines?

I only have a normal cell.
5  Games Center / Showcase / Re: Ricochet - An Android puzzle game on: 2011-01-04 20:13:39
Or put the word zombie in it to continue this stupid trend in the Apple app store.
6  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Re: TUER: Truly Unusual Experience of Revolution, FPS using JOGL on: 2011-01-04 14:08:42
Hey, gouessej, why not porting your game to LWJGL applet? You would eliminate your biggest installation issues I guess and you would enable ad revenue via your web page.
7  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Chrome Web Store on: 2011-01-04 14:04:30
Actually I agree with you. Games of big corporations (Electronic Arts, ...) are ALWAYS featured and get much more visibility than others. Even crappy broken FPS are more visible than mine, I remember that Orange FPS that uses a broken Python installer is more visible. It is extremely difficult to get some visibility in the "popular games" section and my bug fix for Chrome has not yet been integrated. Some people complain when the installation pack that you provide is only a link to another website.
I can`t figure out how that chrome store can survive and not have too much complaints from developers if Google doesn`t want to give visibility to new apps/games. This simply doesn`t make sense to me. I have the impression that the store is just a first version that will evolve for the better otherwise I can`t see how Google can have a strong adoption.

BTW kappa, I love your forum icon! Really cool!

I really like this one but in the blue version.
9  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Chrome Web Store on: 2011-01-03 18:33:44
Anyone here published a game on the store? Any comment?
10  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Chrome Web Store on: 2011-01-03 15:59:37
So, I`ve been watching that store for a few week now and honestly I now thinks it sucks, at least for games. This store favors only some games; newest additions never show up. New games stay invisible unless someone do a search with some relevant keywords. So, why would I pay 5$ to Google? gouessej, what`s your feedback so far about TUER in the store?

Ugly and boring, sorry.
12  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: New feature: java syntax highlighting (finally!) on: 2010-12-23 17:00:44
I hate any of IE but I tested with 7 at work for testing purposes: Single scroll bar but as you mentionned, no color syntax, which is normal for IE.
13  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Got this error in web page after having removed myself from a topic notification on: 2010-12-23 16:33:43
Oh, I read your post to quickly, sorry. No issue then.
14  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Got this error in web page after having removed myself from a topic notification on: 2010-12-23 16:29:20
Not related to topic notif finally; can't repro it. But I got the exact same error message 2-3 times in a row when I was trying to see the last posts on ones that I replied ("Show new replies to your posts."). You know the icon you click at the end of last table column? The error seems random and root cause is really unclear then.
15  Discussions / General Discussions / Got this error in web page after having removed myself from a topic notification on: 2010-12-23 16:12:52
Template Parse Error!

It seems something has gone sour on the forum with the template system. This problem should only be temporary, so please come back later and try again. If you continue to see this message, please contact the administrator.

You can also try refreshing this page.

I though reporting bugs like this one might help to solve issues.

16  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: New feature: spam trap! on: 2010-12-23 16:05:12
Super duper Riven!

I think I'm going to alter the account activation page, of which you get the link in your registration mail, and put a
custom 'captcha' in there. I think that will solve either everything (so that I can disable the spam-post code) or will be a great combination with the current solution.

About captcha, in case you wouldn't know, some spam bots are highly sophisticated so that they're able to recognize basic to a bit more complex ones. I don't know of you have the possibility to require a fairly complex captchas on the form so that most of the time only humans are able to read it?
17  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: New feature: spam trap! on: 2010-12-22 21:20:59
Seems solid. Question: why don't you include all domain suffixes targeting all countries?
18  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Re: WIP: Mummys Tomb on: 2010-12-21 18:15:04
its a bit choppy.
Running Windows 7 32bit java 1.6

every few seconds the game will delay (including sound).

also when I close the applet, sound doesnt seem to get clean up when the destroy method is triggered, as I get a repeating click while the VM is open.

but other than that, the game has a nice feel. I found the jumping style novel. I would imagine it to be enjoyable if the delay spikes didnt constantly distract me.

Same here about game being choppy. Didn't hear sound though.
19  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Spam problem not quite solved. on: 2010-12-21 18:04:52
To make life much harder to spam bots the forums should require a capcha validation on each post and more importantly on user registration. I know it's embarassing for honest users but that helps.
20  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: HUGE CHANGES FOR JGO - PLEASE READ! on: 2010-12-21 15:17:26
I love dishmoth's logo style. Though I'd rather limit the emphasis of yellow and give more space to games in the background. I'd also put more emphasis on the JGO text outline, like an electric blue for example.
21  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: New feature: appreciation on: 2010-12-19 15:11:42
Riven, really good idea this appreciation link.
22  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Humble Indie Bundle on: 2010-12-19 15:07:26
An excellent initiative to support indies indeed!
23  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: HUGE CHANGES FOR JGO - PLEASE READ! on: 2010-12-19 14:59:18
Paypal Riven? And this could apply to fund a professional logo. The issue though is to have concensus on want we want in that logo.
24  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Chrome Web Store on: 2010-12-19 14:53:06
Chrome web store shows potential for java indies. The only thing that bugs me, and that's not minor, is this MS attitude now from Google: you have to use THEIR browser to use the store. Where are you going with Google? To yet another supremacy?
25  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: HUGE CHANGES FOR JGO - PLEASE READ! on: 2010-12-17 22:27:22
I like the last logo SteveO. And by the way, many thanks to all that made the forums move!
26  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Oracle and Apple Announce OpenJDK Project for OSX on: 2010-11-12 19:14:46
Why didn't those idiots announce it earlier?! It would have saved them lots of negative publicity.
So true!

Yes that's excellent news! Related to JVM anoncements, I fear what Oracle will do with their plan to release 2 separate JVMs: one of them free and the other offering better performance (HotSpot + JRockit).
27  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: The Battle for Java Earth! on: 2010-11-04 21:19:33
Very funny! How evil Steve (Apple) fits in this story?  Smiley Is he on the Larry's side, or not?  Wink Maybe Steve wants another kind of precious ring!
28  Discussions / General Discussions / In Venice now on: 2010-10-13 22:01:03
Hey guys, I'm in Venice for vacations! :-) Anyone living here or in the suburb like Mestre?

30  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Fall - coded in C++ - Good reviews = Java Port on: 2010-09-22 01:07:41
The game concept is really good. The graphics of the character are good but the rest doesn't look pro. The music doesn't match the game style. The game pace is much slower than the music feels. The same goes about the stressing tone of it. And finally it's too repetitive.

There're some game play issues I think need improvement:

1. Game speed make the game way too hard. I know I'm not the best player in the world but I think I'm a much better skilled player than the casual one. The simplicity of the game fits well casual players but the game difficulty is way too high for this type of player and in general.
2. Controls: the way to use the boost (Z + arrows) is just awkward. I think this makes the game more difficult than it should. It makes the game "artificially" difficult but is in fact a control design flaw.
3. Level progression is too steep. Create more intermediate levels to have a lower difficulty progression.

Why coding it in C++? Just code it with flixel or maybe even easier, with Stencyl. You'll have much more chances to have the game reviewed outside the Java world, if that's your goal.
