No. Just survive Wink
2  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Air Attack (renamed) on: 2008-09-11 18:01:49
Nice idea - I like it. As others already said: The old title wasn't very nice. It's good that you renamed it. Wink
The only suggestion I have is to add better graphics for the soldier. Wink

3  Games Center / Archived Projects / JFalcon on: 2008-09-11 17:49:10
Here's a little game from me. The basic idea has been copied from the "Falcon Patrol II" at the famous C64:

Here's the game:

And here's a screenshot:

Nice game - but I get confused after while  Wink
A semi-transparent map would be nice.

5  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: How did you start? on: 2006-07-31 05:56:28
I'm not a pro - still a learner. I started with a snake clon

I started working  a new company and knowing java would have been an advantage so I started learning during lunch break. I have programmed before so it wasn't too difficult.  Grin
6  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: JSeafox on: 2006-05-28 12:31:29
You should try to kill it from below with a surface torpedo.
Another strategy would be to surface the sub, but not for too long. The fighter drops the bomb only when you above a certain depth.
7  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: JSeafox on: 2006-05-26 06:56:57
Maybe you started with SPACE instead of ENTER? That is an option I used for testing which isn't removed yet.
ENTER starts the game as it should be.
SPACE starts the game at the same level where you died before.  This doesn't work at the first play.

The airplane which drops the bomb should keep you in a certain depth. It should prevent the player from playing at the surface as this is a submarine. Wink
8  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Plopnoid 2, a nice arkanoid clone on: 2006-05-26 06:52:58
Nice game. I had some problems with the bouncing, too.
I like the features that can be caught, the Earthquake, the "crazy" ball, etc.

English language would be nice. (I'm from Germany so I could get the meaning of most sentences but English would be far better  Wink )
9  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Lost Drops on: 2006-03-16 06:42:46
Cool game. I really like the player sprite  Grin
Game runs fine. I had two small problems:
- sometimes the collision detection seems not to work properly. I had to jump twice or more times at some drops to get them.
- I had some problems with the timing of my jumps. I personally would like if the jump would go a bit further. But perharps I'm only a bad player.  Grin
10  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Ancient Arenas (web applet Java 1.1) on: 2006-03-14 06:35:28
Run's fine. But medium level is too hard for me  Cry
I think I should change settings to "EASY"  Wink
11  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: JSeafox on: 2006-03-08 11:11:36
fixed the problem.  Tongue
12  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: JSeafox on: 2006-03-02 11:16:04
Yes, but now it is:

(a)mmo (o.k. bad analogy Wink )
(d)rop waterbomb

I don't want to have two different buttons for firing torpedos to left/right. I thought about this when designing the controls. My first idea was to have only one button for firing torpedos (depending on the sub movement) like it was in the original Seafox game.

But nevertheless the idea of having some copy of the functionalities at the keybord sounds good. I will think about this.
13  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: JSeafox on: 2006-03-02 08:07:41
Thank you for your interesting comments.

- I removed the startup shop session  Grin
- I activated a funcitonality I used during development: If you're pressing space at start screen you will start at the previous level. This functionality isn't documented and I'm not sure if I should keep it.  Undecided  (Don't press Space when starting the game for the first time - you will start without amunition  Wink )
14  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: JSeafox on: 2006-03-01 12:10:56
@ oNyx:

- O.k. I changed the controls a bit. I think it is better now  Wink
- I don't changed anything at the shop. I like the idea to let the player decide the amount of weapons/upgrades he uses at game start.
- What's wrong with modal dialogs?

Thank you for the comments. Smiley

no comments?   Huh
16  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: NullPointerException when packing game to jar on: 2006-02-23 19:24:18
I've found it finally. The method is

       public URL getURL(String path){

And it is called like this

    URL sound_sub_url  = getURL("sounds/submarine.wav");

There was a typing error -sorry.  Sad
Everything runs fine now - I just posted the game in the "Games Showcase"-Forum.  Grin
17  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: JSeafox on: 2006-02-23 19:12:32
A comment to the controls. Each pressing of a cursor key accelerates the sub in the respective direction.
If your sub is swimming to the left with full speed, you have to press the right cursor key multiple to get it stopped or to get it swimming to the other side.
18  Games Center / Archived Projects / JSeafox on: 2006-02-23 18:53:23
Here is a game which has been inspired by the famous Seafox on C64  Wink

Here are the links

Some additional comment:

There are two possibilites to get fresh air: Either ascend to the surface (not too long) or get an air tank from a friendly dolphin (not in the 1st level)  Smiley

Any comment will be appreciated.

 Embarrassed   deleting the dots will do the job ( i forgot to delete the first slash, too)  Embarrassed

Thank you.  Grin
20  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: NullPointerException when packing game to jar on: 2006-02-23 07:11:52
Ooops. I copied my code wrongly: It looks like this:

       URL sound_sub_url  = getURL("./sounds/submarine.wav");

       public URL getURL(String path){
21  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: NullPointerException when packing game to jar on: 2006-02-23 07:08:44

How about this:

public URL getResource(String name)

    Finds the resource with the given name. A resource is some data (images, audio, text, etc) that can be accessed by class code in a way that is independent of the location of the code.

    The name of a resource is a '/'-separated path name that identifies the resource.
22  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: NullPointerException when packing game to jar on: 2006-02-23 06:53:00
O.k. I did it like suggested and ran it from jar but I still have the same problem...  Cry
23  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: NullPointerException when packing game to jar on: 2006-02-23 06:45:54
O.k. I  will try it, but I wonder if there is a way to get it working both in Eclipse and jar-file.  Huh
24  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: NullPointerException when packing game to jar on: 2006-02-22 16:05:39
Deleting the point in "./sounds/..." doesn't solves the problem Then I get a NullPointerException when I run the program in Eclipse.
25  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / NullPointerException when packing game to jar on: 2006-02-22 15:09:15

I can't find a solution: I made a little game with Eclipse. Within my workspace I told Eclipse to create two folders src and bin. I manually added two folders pics and sound. Therefore my folder structure is looking like this:

              |___ ....
              |___ ....

The sound files are loaded as following:

       URL sound_sub_url  = getURL("./sounds/submarine.wav");

This works fine as long as I'm testing my game in Eclipse. When I create a jar-file from my bin folder I receive a NullPointerException when starting the game from the jar. The NullPointerException happens when my program is trying to load the first sound file.

Is it a problem of my folder structure or should I create the URL a different way?

Nice. Could be a cool basis for a snake clone. Smiley
27  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Submarine 3d game on: 2006-02-20 06:32:14
Looks good. I will keep an eye at this, since I always like submarine games Smiley
28  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: TurtleCombat on: 2006-02-15 12:02:11
Has there be some changes or did  I find a bug?

There is a difference depending on cpu speed!  At home at my (very) old pc I only get something around 10 FPS  Cry  - but with the cucumber machinegun I was able to fire 3 - 4 burst until a coconut from my opponent hits me. With my pc at work (around 50 FPS) I only was able to fire 1 burst until the coconut of my opponent hits me.
