Ran great, fun game, did first 8 levels, only thing i did not like is something others already mentioned, clicking on money bag or other popups built your item there. I assume it would get harder farther along because it was pretty easy so far.

the mage keeps disappearing, three times in a row in the same spot, can't control him after he disappears.  It appears whoever is directly above the door in the starting room disappears.  My knight just disappeared in that spot too.

there is(guess was now) a javagaming area setup, two computers had runescape and two had the link to this forum so people could try stuff out.  Today they changed one of the computers to have opensolaris running tremoulus(sp?) on it.  runescape got acknowledged in the opening keynote also and went on stage.

You need to do:

p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd.exe /c dir");

for windows

i have it, part way through it.  it is alright, getting to the better stuff now(3d), first half of the book mostly just went over topics i already had a decent understanding of or have read elsewhere.

overall i like it, better than the other java game books out imo.  i just wish it used jdk 1.5 features, ex.  System.nanoTime() timing instead of spending time of on native way of doing it.

18  Java Game APIs & Engines / JOGL Development / Re: JOGL app failure rate on: 2004-06-18 02:39:41
i get this error, did not notice it last time, it was behind the game window:

java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Invalid display mode
     at sun.awt.Win32GraphicsDevice.setDisplayMode(Unknown Source)
     at com.gufbal.dan.breakout.CustomAnimator.run(CustomAnimator.java:94)
     at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

i tried hitting the menu item to switch back to windowed but it did not do anything, could be because of above error

21  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Recommended CVS system? on: 2004-06-02 20:23:22
subversion wasn't that hard to get setup, especially if you just use it's own server and not apache.  Getting all the mod_dav stuff to work with the correct library versions was the more difficult part.  but once you do it is nice being able to talk to your repository behind the corporate firewall.

There is no public link to download the 1.4 for windows.  You need to download Websphere MQ(which is 75MB) to get it.

Here is the link for that
http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/download/product.jsp?s=p&id=TDUN-49EVER&dt=TRIAL&v=5.3

You do not need to install the whole package,  after unpacking it asks you if you want to install mq.  Say no and then in <install di>\Source\MACVEnUs\Prereqs\JDK will be ibm-java2-sdk-140.exe

Hope this helps

I might be going, it is my fiance's spring break, and she said we should go there(a lot warmer than wisconsin).  She would hang out at the beaches and I would go to the conference.

You need to add -source 1.5 when you compile.

here is a simple example of some of the new fetures.

//static import
import static java.lang.Math.*;

public class Test {
 public Test() {
 }
 public static void main(String... args) {
    //auto boxing
   Integer k = 1;
    //generics
   java.util.List<Integer> l = new java.util.ArrayList<Integer>();
   java.util.Map<String,String> bob = System.getenv();
   java.util.Set<String> set = bob.keySet();
   java.util.Iterator<String> it = set.iterator();
   System.out.println(pow(1.0,1.0));
   test("Hi", "Testing");
   while(it.hasNext()) {
     String s = it.next();
      //c printf  formatting
     System.out.println(String.format("%1$s = %2$s", s,bob.get(s)));
   }
 }
 //var arg
 public static void test(String... s) {
   for(int i =0; i < s.length; i++) {
     System.out.println(s);
   }
 }
}

Mojomonkey: if you like tactics game you should look into the shinging force games, they are my favortie tactics type games, and some of the oldest along with feda.  Two for sega genisis and one for sega cd, two? for game gear, 3 for sega saturn.  I am thinking of making a game that is similar to the sega saturn version.  Working on the terrain generation for it now.

30  Java Game APIs & Engines / JOGL Development / Re: Anyone working on the NeHe tutorials? on: 2003-09-15 15:18:20
I would be happy to port them all to the same format too when they are done, I already moved them all to the same package structure and modified them so they work from a jar and command line, and also made it so they work in both linux and windows.

I agree with pepijnve that the jogl code should be seperated out from the other code.  I like how he setup his code, allows for easy reading.
