1  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: What video games have you been playing lately? on: 2013-06-19 13:45:49
What? mobile games no count as "video game"?! D:

I only play Pixel Dungeon right now and will keep playing playing playing until I beat that nutdamn level 15 (or 16?) boss!
2  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Is anyone sad about slick2d? on: 2013-06-19 03:55:45
That's not good example. Not reliable and you can see the owner's comment. If you want to take existing wrapper/template try Gemserk's one, you can find it on Github.
3  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Why do jar files not have icons? on: 2013-06-19 03:52:06
Launch4j has feature to bundle the JVM for you, but it only support windows EXE.
4  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: What's your favorite game. on: 2013-06-19 03:46:44
Even though I'm not a big fan of HALO, it was always fun playing HALO Custom Edition with the rest of my computer science class. My friends and i would do crazy things like driving vehicles into places they weren't supposed to be able to go and just using them as turrets.
Then you play it well. On campaign after grabbed a Banshee I always drive it to nearest wall, break both of its wings so it becomes slim, and drive it to strange place like indoor or command center.
5  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2013 / Re: java4k.com website is down on: 2013-06-19 03:44:40
Can't help you there. Like any sane person I disabled the Java plugin Smiley
Looks like I am the only one who insane here.
6  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Random JVM crashes. (no JNI) on: 2013-06-19 03:40:58
I had several SIGSEGV incident before but I was using JNI (libgdx). So I think it's related to underhood black magic.

Which JVM do you use?
7  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: How do you properly build a jar with libgdx? on: 2013-06-18 04:46:30
Like wreed said, choose Runnable jar export, not the normal one. It will add the manifest greatly. For assets, check project properties if it's included as part of exporting.
8  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: What's your favorite game. on: 2013-06-18 04:42:25
Since it's mobile gaming trend, I'll add Pixel Dungeon and Gunslug to my list.
9  Game Development / Game Mechanics / Re: How to balance skills in games on: 2013-06-18 04:40:23
Start from constraint. First make your enemies/obstacles neutral then expect how much % player will survive on this level.
10  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Why do jar files not have icons? on: 2013-06-18 04:38:27
Linux users need no icon. We know how to execute your game with java -jar.
11  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Renderer on: 2013-06-17 13:21:10
Make each of wannabe object to implements/inherits render() method (I prefer implementing aka interface). Then on your global renderer save reference of them in list, bag, or whatever. Then on action, the renderer will loop every object to a) render them or b) inject Graphics ref so they will render themselves.
12  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Is anyone mad about slick2d? on: 2013-06-17 12:01:40
That's unnecessary Smiley
13  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: My game is almost half a Gigabyte in size on: 2013-06-17 08:09:02
Well, beside task force logo and item icons above everything can be drawn by code. Do you have your sprite rendered repeatedly?
14  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: How do you properly build a jar with libgdx? on: 2013-06-17 06:39:08
Eclipse, project properties, build path, export, check em all.

Have you tried fat jar? It is the easiest way to bundle jar and guaranteed to work.
15  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Easter Eggs! on: 2013-06-17 06:37:54
Kinda odd to be easter eggs. I mean, no effort involved to find it since we're reading the source, all files are there, and hitting F3 shows it.
16  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Is anyone mad about slick2d? on: 2013-06-17 06:34:56
Turning it into OSS can give advantage. People can contribute and Kev just hit "accept" Tongue
17  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: XBox One on: 2013-06-16 05:01:08
If i were the head, I will give code inside the disc so disc buyers also get cloud copy (they pay more after all). It won't hurt.
18  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: XBox One on: 2013-06-16 04:48:20
Even on disk, we have real problem to find it. I mean the original one.

Also, having physical disk can be memorable, collectible, and valuable in time. Remember that current technology will be retro in next 7-10 years. What will your grandson find when he search your room/stash? "Nothing here son, the server blown away 6 years ago along with my purchased games and stuff". They will have no chance to feel the taste of "retro".
19  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: How did you start the career as a Game Dev? on: 2013-06-16 04:32:38
"Java" not "java".
20  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: XBox One on: 2013-06-16 04:32:07
THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH JAVA!!!
Just kidding. I agree with everyone on the used game fees. You know, downloading games is better than disks. Why are we using disks? They are physical. Think how much it costs to make a couple million disks, and a long wait to buy in stores, angering gamers. This is apposed to downloading, immediate release, no driving to store, and no money spent on disks. Just hosting! Why is there any debate?!
There are some countries where the console being sold but have a) suck and expensive internet speed AND b) problem in credit card transaction, not to mention how luxury CC is for them.
21  Game Development / Game Mechanics / Re: How would you implement a stair system on: 2013-06-16 04:23:15
What kind of stair? there's 2 kind on 2D platformer (I think the term is fit here). One is like what UpRightPath says. Other one is where you need no key press, the stair appears as terrain instead background.
22  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Is anyone mad about slick2d? on: 2013-06-16 04:21:16
I never use slick2d before, but I'm mad a little Java games loses one of its finest library.
23  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Can someone tell me how to make a screen that I can use! on: 2013-06-15 14:08:31
Well, you can't just ask to make something. It will make forum looks like fiverr without the $5 Grin

Tell what exactly your problem is. If you need template you can search it.
24  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: What music do you listen to while you code? on: 2013-06-14 05:54:23
People have new (and different) taste.
25  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: New Java Console named Project Mojo. on: 2013-06-12 06:40:33
- Requires no internet beside downloading games
- Must have free games, OR easy to buy
- Indie friendly
- Reasonable price

If it fails just by one point above, send it to hell.
26  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: America's STASI on: 2013-06-10 14:10:31

30  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: ALIENS !! on: 2013-06-10 13:01:14
You also have people who are kinda obsessively believing for no real scientific reason. People who go at this scientifically and say "well lets look at the evidence" are very few because real scientist simply cannot do it, due to the risk of being ridiculed.
Well unfortunately some things can be proved by evidence only, not chemical react explanation. Heck, even everything we know about space is not close to evidence but theory.

What more important, is the evidence legit or not?
