9  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: SpeedTree on: 2005-02-13 10:25:10
As the levels of detail engines can display increases there is going to be a growing need for content-creation tools because it will increasingly not be viable to have enough model-makers to dedicate to every rock, tree, flower and leaf in the world.

Yes it's going to be interesting to see how tools will evolve and what will be creating for the artists(level designer, modelers, texture,...).
10  Java Game APIs & Engines / J2ME / good j2me phone on: 2005-01-22 17:14:27
I'm looking for a good mobile phone to develop programs/game on. I'have asked my friend google but i didn't find much so i am asking on this forum full of j2me guru(hopefully) Wink .The offer is wide and the information specific on java capabilities is not the easiest to get (j2me is a new world to me).
I live in europe (belgium) and i'm ready to invest up to 200ยค.
So which one combine big heap, simultaneous key hit, ease to transfer data from pc, programmatic access to built-in camera a low price (and anything important i'm not aware of) ? Huh

What about the nokia ngage qd? I thought of a pda but i can't invest in a pda and a mobile phone.
Note to moderator: feel free to lock this topic if you think it's not the good forum for such question

13  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Jake2 Webstart version (Java Quake2) on: 2004-11-04 08:10:34
I have a problem with the loading of assets:
-the console is spammed with "can't find pic: xxxx"
-the loading is really slow
-each time a new level is being loaded the game freeze for about 10 seconds
-missing textures of wall, weapons,monsters,menu,...
-The files are there but the game doesn't load them all the time. Sometime a texture is loaded an other time it's not loaded; really random.

(I don(t have those problems if i run quake natively with the exe)
Excepted that problems it runs fine and smoothly.

my configuration:
windows 98, 256mB ram, geforce3, 1.4Ghz p4

16  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: Java video modes offset on IBook on: 2004-08-24 18:08:31
your screen probably doesn't support the resolution/refresh rate used.
If you mess with the screen resolution andrefresh rate you'll end up having the same one as used "by java" with the same offset.
Try changing (lowering) the refresh rate if the option is available.

This link may be interesting for you
18  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Quix - Early build on: 2004-08-16 07:49:10
windows 98se

when i try Quix (fullscreen) i have this message (in a jdialog):
"unable to launch in fulllscreen"

Windowed mode on the other hand works fine, i didn't see any slowdown.

The effects in the game look very cool( new level, end of level, when touching a 'critter',...)

the glowing effect is really impressive but it looks a bit buggy when it's applied on the 'blocks' (the things you'r moving on) the glowing appears inside the blocks. The bigger the block is the more it i noticable.

The game looks fun to play. the concept looks fun, you must be able to move quickly and think at the same time to regroup the crittters
19  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Please test and give feeback on: 2004-07-22 18:35:36
-Game freeze when the game is over and i try to make a new game
-the mini icon of the application in the taskbar (the stuff with text and icon to select an application)flicker under windows 98 se i never notices that with another java application. It has probably nothing to do with you game so you'd better not take care of this
-I would a prefere colors assigned to shape instead of random colors
-it's not always possible to rotate the object, for instance when a piece is next to a border or just appeared.
20  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Realtime Multiplayer Strategy - Provide Feedba on: 2004-07-21 17:41:49
-moving the main window when the cursor is in the border-> good idea but you must "aim" if you want to do that and that's really annoying(you must move the cursor at a certain position, it's not like you'd simpily add to move the cursor all the way on the border of the screen) plus there is a short delay before it start moving
-when going to option and go back-> the screen is not where it was before going to the option menu
-the screen is not on the base in the beginning
-when you make "end game" you go back to the login screen
-no queue to automaticly build several things
-units move too slowly!
- can't select multiple units??
-can't build industry/city/... only moving units?

25  Game Development / Game Play & Game Design / Re: Naming Games on: 2004-06-10 09:11:24

I have the invalid display mods problem too (for all the games, not just this one), 0hz trick works fine.
javaw crash when i make alt+f4 (i think it's not just for this game either).

Runs fine at 60fps.
26  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Dev-Diaries @ JGF on: 2004-06-08 11:25:34
It's nice to mention updates Smiley
About opera, there is no problem with the website, the scale stuff always behave like that on sites with frames.

edit: there is a little error in Developer Diaries, "Survivor by Adam Martin" classification start at Part 4 instead of part 1
27  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: help: Dedicated server hosting - esp Zope on: 2004-06-04 09:27:51

28  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Hallucinogenesis alpha test on: 2004-05-29 12:35:33
a) runs fine on win98/j2sdk1.4.2_04 (excepted an annoying bug, see below)

b) didn't notice fps counter but it's fine

c)yes it's fun...when you understand how to aim and what to do in the current level ^^

ps: i have a little problem when i launch the game: menu/cursor appears and the game is refreshing but it looks like the game freeze (nothing happen when i move the mouse).
When i do a ctrl-alt-delete to  have the "close programs" window and immediatly press escape (i don't do anything just a ctrl+alt+delete, i don't try to end any task!)the menu works :/.
I have the same problem with Mini Adventure (aka lights of laminos) with an help window, a little ctrl alt delete and everything run fine again. You shouldn't take care about this since i am the only one with this problem, the problem probably comes from my computer.
