1  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: So, what kinda game are you planning for the 2007 competition? :) on: 2006-11-30 13:40:07
I'd like to take my last submission (StagParty4k) and make it work. But I don't know if I'll have time. Maybe I'll do a Cascade 4K 2, super enhanced edition (my entry to Year 1).
2  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: The J4K Legacy on: 2006-11-30 12:43:42
When did you first enter?
First year. Abuse kicked my butt. Wink

Quote
Are you going to have a go this year?
Always do.

BTW, you guys can help record the legacy of the contest:

I'm on Wiki, I'm famous! Wink
3  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2007 / Re: Important: NO PACK200 on: 2006-11-30 12:33:41
there are other java implmentations than the sun java jre. :-)
Yes, and ones that "matter". But not really for the games space.

@Abuse, you scare me. Smiley

When did you first enter? Are you going to have a go this year?
the second I think. Wink

EDIT: Nope, the first, I judged the second.
5  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: And the winner is ... on: 2006-03-16 08:01:29

Edit: From JSquares, "shelton (+50): didn't play, took too long for the extra components to install."

Does anyone know what he might be talking about? As far as I can tell, the game doesn't do anything that might require special components.

As the author of JSquares, I can say definitively that there are no special components that install, so I have no idea what he's talking about. I'ts pure java, self-contiained in the jar. Maybe WebStart tried to update something and that took too long? Certainly wasn't the game itself.
<j2se version="1.4"/> should be <j2se version="1.4+"/>
as if you have1.5 installed, it will install 1.4. grr.
6  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: And the winner is ... on: 2006-03-14 11:25:21
A great year, good job woogley !
7  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Chosen Judges on: 2006-03-06 15:57:51
Sounds good. Shocked Wow, so many games to play...
8  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: Contest Rules on: 2005-12-08 17:12:31
Woohoo, yummy games to play.

Boo, so little time at the moment! Sad
9  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2006 / Re: New j4k contest anytime soon? on: 2005-11-22 19:57:15
We should start a new one.
I've been completed out of the loop. I'll try to catch up on this thread, and contact Woogley.
10  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Thinking about buying a Nintendo DS on: 2005-07-18 16:16:32
The NDS is great fun, Pac Pix is just fantastic.

> And what do you think about the gameplay particularities of the DS?

Great, but I don't know how much more New Stuff can come out for it, before it is just more of the same.

Cool, great stuff Woogley.

When is the LWJGL16k gonna start?!  Grin

I wrote a draft, but didn't got many comments.

It'll be used next year me thinks.

Right, anyone that want dukes, post in the forum.java thread, and I'll hand 'em out.

re: Stag4K
Blah^h, I take it on a mac? Its odd that it crashed on yours, as it seams to work ok on mine (very very old). Any idea why?
No game? I'm sorry, but it had as much of a game as any other "shoot wave after wave of baddys". I agree it was not great, but I found that comment odd.
16  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: J4K on: 2005-03-22 20:07:58
I think next year will have a "must be a self executable jar" rule.
17  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: 4+n letter file extensions (small rant) on: 2005-03-17 21:22:25
The whole "extensions" thing is backwards anyway. Metadata has its place, and it is not in filename.

Not really a troll, more a very lazy crapflooder, with only three posts.

That was helpful.

NP.
Err, this might just be My Badly Set  Up Mac (default install of 10.3 I think), but the JNLP file does autostart on it. Either the Mac needs the .jnlp extention, or your not sending the correct MIME type (just checked, not so), or my OSX install is buggered.
23  Discussions / Community & Volunteer Projects / Re: Project Proposal: Human on: 2005-03-13 21:51:30
Sorry, the post was a cut&paste job, but I would still like to see
a) A somewhat complete GDD
b) A started TDD.

I don't think having uncompleted games on Java.net helps the community (which is what I believe the java.net cvs is for). Writing the GDD & TDD will help you gain an idea of the scale of the project you are suggesting, and show that you are dedicated enough to complete the project.

But I thought this had a sf account alread?
27  Discussions / Community & Volunteer Projects / Re: Project Proposal: Human on: 2005-03-13 04:18:19
Could the OP post a more detailed project description.

I feel that all game ideas should come with at lest a Game Design Doc, pref. with level seeds for at lest the first two levels.
Some light reading for the OP:

Given the very open ended nature of the game as described thus far, I also feel a start on the Technical Design Document would be required.

You might want to add some sanity check on the input data, as I've just created my fantastic game <blank>. I highly recomend it.  Grin

Throwable:java.lang.Exception: Velocity is buggy as an ant farm and whoever wrote the exception code broke itso that you can't actually inspect exceptions;

Please note: This idiot put the ONLY critical information in the logfile, so the admins will have to manually search through potentially hundreds of megabytes to find the damn bloody message. Oh how we wish they didnt do that, because we COULDhave AVOIDED this error message and done some clever stuff and shown you a webpage, except that the velocity coder who never tested their code made that impossible. Sob.

London, UK. I've no idea if any pro game dev happens down here (out side the J2ME space), but the igda events are always nice & fun, so  I guess plent of none-java game dev is going on.
