1  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: State Sorting and Render Process on: 2005-11-13 15:03:49
Thanks Will, I've been pouring over and over it and I believe I may have a decent grip now.  When I have my next specific question I will post.

Thanks again for replying.

3  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / State Sorting and Render Process on: 2005-10-30 13:45:18
Good day, it's been a while since I've trolled this board, but I'm interested in researching a little bit about the core renderer for xith.

I see how the process of generating the renderbins occurs as the renderFrame is generated, but the management of the state sorting in the shaders is confusing to me, there are alot of interfaces and maps that I'm not understanding completely.

Yuri or Will or anyone else who's worked with the core - would you have time to have an IM chat or email chain about this?

I read David's high level overview ( as well as Will's rendering process diagram, now I want to figure out exactly how the sorting and state management works.

Thanks in advance,

@Orangy - Yep, sounds like a good name for it
6  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: GeometryInfo replacement on: 2003-12-30 19:32:40
Will these helper classes become part of the xith core, or will they go in the toolkit?

Thank you Jens, I will remove my copy of xith_utilities.jar tonight.

8  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / on: 2003-12-18 00:46:07
hey I noticed that the classes in are also in the xith_utilities jar (  which should we be using?  Is it possible that whichever copy is redundent and no longer being developed could be removed?

I think the IO classes rock, btw.  I was planning on writing all this myself, but with it done, I'm saved a good deal of work and testing!  Thank you!

I'd like to know the explaination from the Xith Terrain side too... how does this work with one big Shape3D?

How does the internals of that work?  Not knowing - might I suggest log4j ?

Do we need to request this new role in addition to our Observer Status, so that we can comment on our own issues?

14  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / Re: UIWindow Class Cast Exception on: 2003-11-04 12:00:03
Sweet.  Thanks.  Was it the converting between Components and JComponents?

Submitted Issue.
16  Java Game APIs & Engines / Xith3D Forums / UIWindow Class Cast Exception on: 2003-10-16 10:37:42
Hi guys,

I'm trying to use a JList in a window, and getting a class cast exception.  The list is initialized using the default constructor (via Class.newInstance()).

Here is the stack:

       at com.xith3d.userinterface.UIWindow.getDirtyAreas(
       at com.xith3d.userinterface.UIWindow.getDirtyAreas(
       at com.xith3d.userinterface.UIWindow.renderToBuffer(
       at com.xith3d.userinterface.UIWindow.update(
       at com.xith3d.userinterface.UIWindowManager.newFrame(
       at com.xith3d.scenegraph.View.getRenderFrame(
       at com.xith3d.scenegraph.View.renderOnce(
       at com.xith3d.scenegraph.View.renderOnce(

I think the problem lies inside getDirtyRegions()here:
        if (c instanceof Container) {
            Container ca = (Container) c;
            Component cs[] = ca.getComponents();
            for (int i = 0; i < cs.length; i++) {
                getDirtyAreas(p, (JComponent)cs[i], areas);

What do you think?  Can you try replicating this by adding a JList that has no model?

Have a good one,
