1  Java Game APIs & Engines / JOGL Development / JOGL runs on OS X 10.2.6 with Java 1.4.1 update 1 on: 2003-09-15 01:43:25
FYI, I was able to get the Sept 5 drop of the JOGL to run on my eMac (700 Mhz Geforce 2MX) with the Java 1.4.1_01 update 1 with OS X 10.2.6 (Jaguar).

About half of the examples worked, the other half did not work.  I kept getting errors about some GL function not supported.

1) Is my Geforce 2MX not sufficient to run all of the examples or is it the Apple drivers that come with Jaguar?

2) If the problem is the drivers, are the drivers that come with Panther (10.3) going to support the additional GL functions so that all of the examples?

3) Some of the examples run very slowly...VertexProgWarp for example.  I get about 12 FPS.  This seems a little slow.  Is this normal for an eMac (700 Mhz G4 with Geforce 2MX)?

Thanks and keep up the good work...

2  Java Game APIs & Engines / JOGL Development / Re: JOGL MacOSX 10.2 compatibility Wanted ! on: 2003-08-05 02:03:31
I disagree...they should be working on a good implementation for panther, not some half assed 10.2 implementation.  Do it right the first time.  I'm going to get panther because Java GUI on 10.2 is so pathetically slow (even on 1.4.1).  My 450 MHz W2K box with 1.4.2 kicks my 700 MHz eMac's ass, badly, when you compare Java GUI performance.

Here's hoping for a GOOD GOGL implementation on panther!

3  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / X3D M6 Now Available on: 2003-01-07 02:32:22
Quote From the Java3D list:
Highlights of this release:

Alignment with the ISO X3D FCD specification
X3D XML Encoding complete
Example program showing how to convert XML encoded data into X3D worlds
Event Model rewrite, should be fully spec compliant
Heavy ECMAscript debugging
Heavy EXTERNProto debugging

You can download Xj3D at:

It's good to see this XML-3D stuff progressing nicely.  Good job to all involved!
4  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / Java3D 1.3.1 Beta new Available on: 2003-01-04 06:28:58
You can download it at:

I'm not sure what is the difference between 1.3 and 1.3.1 (bug fixes I assume).

I downloaded/installed (OpenGL version) it and it seemed to run fine with Windows 2000 SP3, TNT1, 512M memory, 450 Mhz machine with JDK 1.4.1_01.  Now when will JDK 1.4.2 be out?  Supposedly it performs better in some benchmarks than 1.4.1_01.

Anyway, good to see that Sun is still bugfixing/enhancing Java3D.  Now I'm looking forward to M6 of X3D!
