I'm programmig a 2d game and i use a big background image as my map. I use the  BufferedImage.getRGB(int x, int y)  method to get data from my map. I want to transfer the data from the image to some other place where i can access the data faster. The question is which method is the best. I was thinking to use a treemap but i am not sure. Can somone help me please, and also show me te code to do it please

thanks for helping. I try to unload my animation pictures i dont need and break up my map in smaller sections.

I get that message when i try to play my game. I have searched the web and found

 1. increase the memory allocated (by using the -Xms and/or -Xmx options to the "java" command)

2. rewrite your application such that it uses less memory

It is my map image which when i make it to big i get the error. I can play with small maps. I'm programming a 2d game and i make the maps in photoshop. But i dont know what format i should use and bit depth. I want to use big maps but not increase the memory allocated to the java command. Can somone help me find the optimal images i should use, please ?

I'm programming a 2d shoot em up game in java and i have som problem with my images. I use a gif picture as a map and when i update the position u can see the last frame shine through, the map doesnt get very sharp. It's hard to explain. You can easily see it at the edges. I use fullscreen mode and dubbelbuffering. I have tried with more buffers but it doesnt work. If I slow down the game it helps a bit.

I use  a map movement fornula: where it's black you cant move to, it's my first game so if there is a better way please let me know

My fps doesn't get any higher than my refreshrate on the screen, why is it so?
