1  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2014 / Re: Judging results on: 2014-03-22 07:57:40
Great thanks to the judges and community for taking the time to play all the games and vote! And of course thanks to everyone making these nice games.

The judges feedback is nice. @teletubo Sorry for the inconvenient island shapes...  Grin And yes the special items really exist. They are buried on beaches and you can spot them from the boat as a dark spot on the beach, like if someone has been digging there.

One thing that helped me was replacing all Math.cos( x ) with Math.sin(PI / 2 + x). And replacing else if statements with if statements (where possible) also can help a bit.

Nice action-packed game! Love the explosions. Smiley
4  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2014 / Re: Treasure Hunt 4k on: 2014-01-25 21:03:31
I've updated the game. Here are some things that have changed:
- increased view area
- increased speed on sea and land
- increased terrain resolution
- icebergs are bigger
- added items, scattered around the map: 2 items that slow down monsters, 2 items that increase the view area, 4 maps that show a quarter of the total map
- improved performance
- hmmm I think that's about it, I didn't have room to add buildings or trees unfortunately

Hope this improves the game somewhat. Enjoy playing!  Grin

Thanks for the feedback! Will be useful for the next update.

The game can be restarted now.

Quote
Map - make the game freeze while you check the map. I found myself keeping the map open as I sailed to look for pattern matches and hitting sea monsters before I knew it
You can't actually see more on the map than you see on the regular screen. The map is for orientation. The sea monsters can only move in deep waters. So when you're near land (and some distance from deep water) you should be safe to look at the map as long as you want.

Dots - are they sandbars? rocks?
They are icebergs. Luckily you don't sink when hitting them!  Grin The top and bottom parts of the map are arctic regions, so that's why there are icebergs and the land is a bit whitish.

Found all 3 now, nice ending. Getting insane when becoming rich

It's nice to be rich! Smiley When your last treasure is on an iceberg you won't be rich for very long before you're very dead...  Tongue

Sloooooow. It's an interesting concept, but it ends up being snail racing with only one snail.
Yeah, I'd like to add some more stuff. Like a compass that doesn't point north, some world maps to find, and some trees, rocks or buildings would be nice too. Will have to see how far I get.

A simple game, find three treasures on a randomly generated map. Sea monsters are to be avoided!

The graphics aren't great but I hope it's fun to play! I'm curious what people think.

Still lacks a restart button. Will have to add that.

Amazing cool game! And very hard. So the trick with the aiming is to hold the firing control and then you can move sideways. But I still haven't been able to pass the first level! Cheesy Will have to try some more. Not sure if it is too hard or not.

The 4k limit is for the unsigned jar, not the signed one.

From the Java4k.com Rules:
Quote
If there is a need for the game to be signed and the signed game package exceeds 4096 bytes, then an unsigned game package, that is below or equal to 4096 bytes, must be provided.

So I think it could still work. Sure sounds interesting Cheesy.

Is there anyway to reset my username/password? I submitted a game in 2007 (http://java4k.com/index.php?action=games&method=user&uid=167) , but I have no idea what my username/password was.

Also, I tried to contact Appel at 'appel (a) java4k.com' (from the Rules section) about this but the email address doesn't work.

Thanks.
