It is also why "tinkering" is not always a bad thing. The people who do the most "tinkering" would be artists and musicians. Sometimes, you can't really calculate what the right note for a chord would be. Sometimes, you can't get that tree leaf to look correct. It is not something that many people can "experiment" with and come up with the same solution, it is just something that you "tinker" with until it feels right to you.
Which Is why I personally consider gamecode programmers to be artists. You can be able to code an OS kernel on your sleep yet if you don't know how to evaluate when something looks/feels good you end up with clunky gameplay and boring special effects.

Definitely. I don't know if this is just me, but IMHO "SomeClass extends AnotherClass" looks better than "SomeClass : AnotherClass". The same with long class/variable names, for example "WindowClassExtended" against "WNDCLASSEX".
That I agree with. I also develop web content and I have yet to learn JQuery because of this. I hate API atrocities which you constantly need to look at documentation to figure out what a method does. Any good programmer spends more time figuring out what code to write than writing code.

I find it best to create a manipulator interface to tell the object what it's supposed to do so that during a scripted event you switch the object's default manipulator (typically controller input for player, AI for others) for the scripted event manipulator

If it's a retro/old platformer and there is a wooden bridge, it ALWAYS falls when you try to get through it.


Badass with no emotion what so ever shooting hordes of people, never once stopping even when shot at.
Is this an active cliché? Because most games nowadays have pussies that spend most of the action covering from fire than actual action, not actual badasses.

I'm hoping this zombie fad to die a horrible death. I't tiresome to see them over and over again, even on games that have no reason to be about zombies. I don't mind much games/movies that ar aware of how retarded the concept is (eg.: Lollipop Chainsaw and Dead Snow) but those that try to scare you with some moronic scientific explanation to make them seem believable (eg.: Resident Evil and I am legend) just insult my intelligence.

I was rather hoping it's going to be "robots" but this never seems to happen...

Doesn't sound all that far-fetched really, with all the hype created by the (awful) Michael Bay Transformers and (much better) Pacific Rim, in addition to Titanfall and the already ongoing Hawken, there could be a rising interest in those.
