1  Game Development / Game Mechanics / Re: Launching the Odejava examples on: 2008-11-05 08:56:57
there's a script named like "build-odejava-linux.sh" or similar
2  Game Development / Game Mechanics / Re: Launching the Odejava examples on: 2008-11-04 16:00:22
I think the binaries in CVS are not up to date. harsens did not commit/remove them when changing the sources. You'll need to compile them yourself, I'm afraid. (and you could commit them if it works)
3  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Funny code in src.zip on: 2008-10-09 10:01:11
oh, interesting - did not know that != is equivalent to ! ==. Thanks.
4  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Funny code in src.zip on: 2008-10-09 07:36:46
it would make more sense to say if (v1 != NaN).
No, that check would always return false, as well.
5  Game Development / Performance Tuning / Debug mode in 1.6 really slow on: 2008-10-09 07:29:46
Hi all,

I usually run all processes in Debug mode when starting something from my IDE to be able to investigate asa any problems arise. But with jdk1.6 (at least after 1.6.0-0_04) the speed is vastly degraded, compared to the run mode. With 1.5 is speed difference between 'run' and 'debug' is about 10%. The same app started with jdk1.6 takes 100 times longer to complete some tasks when the debugger is turned on (with debugger off it's about 20% faster than with jdk1.5). Esp. reflective access seems to be that slow, but 'normal' operation is slower by factor 10 at least.
How's that? Any hint on what to do? (updating the jdk to 1.6.0-0_07-b06 did not help)
Anyone with the same problems?

Regards
/Irrisor

as i'm sure you're aware for floats it's testing for NaN values.
How's that? NaN != NaN returns false, but any other float value returns false as well, no? It would make sense with a ==, of course.

ClientFX is a plug-in that allows fx:// links to be clicked in a browser or click-to-run applications to be resident on your desktop
So the client needs to install your product first to be able to run mine? Huh Where's the improvement? It makes the Java distribution problem worse, doesn't it? Webstart and applets are not as nice as they could be, but they are installed if Java is installed, at least. For using your product the client requires Java and your plugin installed Undecided

and soon will support Linux

oh, and I need a special server application? Or can it be used with my L/WAMP?

Where's the pricing information?

Very nice game. Well done, lukecrashtestgames.
9  Game Development / Game Mechanics / Re: Odejava project's next steps on: 2008-09-12 08:17:57
Did you report those issues already to jezek2? Is the btSliderConstraint not ported yet?
Well, you've seen my post on bulletphysics.com boards. I thought jesek2 would see it, too. I did not report it to him directly (and there is no issue tracker afaik).

wow! I didn't know about that. It can even run eclipse! Thanks jesek2.
11  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Online dominoes games ……….Anyone???? on: 2008-09-04 06:34:11
There is a "report-to-moderator" link, but I don't think anyone clicked on it.
I did, right after the second spam post. So it's obviously broken.

13  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Online dominoes games ……….Anyone???? on: 2008-08-26 11:00:49
lol
first thought while watching topic list: spam? but, there's reply...
second thought after reading: spam!? but what for? no link...

Can anyone tell me the reason for such a post? Or is there a country, I have never heard of, where domino is a game in casinos?
14  Game Development / Game Mechanics / Re: Odejava project's next steps on: 2008-08-19 19:51:14
Oh, forgot to mention that the website odejava.org is really in a bad shape (content wise and control - spam! - wise). I was not even able to get an account Shocked and let William provide that with admin rights.

P.S. even worse: it's suspended again Cry
15  Game Development / Game Mechanics / Re: Odejava project's next steps on: 2008-08-19 19:46:13
Hi Jani, good to see you around and you are still interested in your baby Cheesy

Currently only Herwin (cvs login harsens) is working on ODEJava. I have restructured and improved it a little in the past. But I think that's it, regarding contributions in the last years.

Currently there is no actual alternative imo. jBullet, while very promising, still has issues with joints (no translational axes, rotational not that flexible), JOODE is very incomplete, jPhysX... well I don't like PhysX Tongue, and so on.
We are using ODEJava as most important implementation for jME Physics 2.

Re your proposals: Tutorial would surely be great. Having the binaries precompiled for the development version is nice, yes. I tried to provide those (with jME community help) in the past. At least for the releases this was successful. But if you don't have all the platform available yourself it's a pain to make them for the development version each time you change the natives.

I'd be happy to discuss ODEJava's future Smiley

Screenshot looks nice, but the game won't start over here Cry (XP, JRE1.6) - FF2 locks up, Opera shows grey rectangle after clicking, IE7 locks up
17  Game Development / Performance Tuning / Re: Comparing Client VM and Server VM on: 2008-07-31 12:02:43
I had the chance to test it with a special version of JRockit! They have a vm parameter to reduce the pauses the vm causes. I ran it with
java -jrockit -Xgcprio:deterministic -XpauseTarget:30ms
Comparing it to the Sun VM:

CPU: Core 2 Duo, 2.4GHz
VM: 1.6.0_06
OS: Windows XP 32bit
Client FPS: ~600
Client notes: no noticeable pauses
- edit, after copying server to jre:
Server time until stabilized: < 3 seconds (no difference to client vm?)
Server FPS: ~1000
Server notes: no noticeable pauses

JRockit time until stabilized: ~ 14 seconds
JRockit FPS: ~800
JRockit notes: no noticeable pauses

At least for jesek2 it could be interesting to try this vm to see if it reduces the pauses...
18  Java Game APIs & Engines / jMonkeyEngine / Re: jME and JWS on: 2008-07-31 07:35:01
You can download the 1.0 release from the files section (http, see jmonkeyengine.com). If you want to use the development version you'll need an SVN client as you suspected.

...and you should consider posting on the jME Forums as there is much more jme-related activity than here (actually it's nearly zero here, as you might have noticed).
19  Game Development / Game Mechanics / Re: simpull - 2D Physics Engine on: 2008-07-28 08:37:14
Any demos one could simply start to see it in action?
20  Game Development / Performance Tuning / Re: Comparing Client VM and Server VM on: 2008-07-18 10:58:58
I've modified the post above after copying the server vm to the jre.

No pauses though. Maybe the testcase is too small? With deactivation and without help text I get >2000 fps...
21  Game Development / Performance Tuning / Re: Comparing Client VM and Server VM on: 2008-07-18 09:15:10
The server jnlp gives me "Error: no 'server' JVM at 'C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\server\jvm.dll'."

CPU: Core 2 Duo, 2.4GHz
VM: 1.6.0_06
OS: Windows XP 32bit
Client FPS: ~600
Client notes: no noticeable pauses
- edit, after copying server to jre:
Server time until stabilized: < 3 seconds (no difference to client vm?)
Server FPS: ~1000
Server notes: no noticeable pauses

Regarding pauses: I noticed that the memory consumption fluctuates. This probably means you are creating too much garbage. Profile your application (or library) to see if the garbage collection causes the pauses. If yes, find the reason for the 'costly' garbage and reduce it. It's common practice in Java game programming to reduce nasty garbage (but not every garbage is bad!) to calm down the garbage collector.
22  Java Game APIs & Engines / JOGL Development / Re: GlueGen C++ on: 2008-07-08 07:04:50
Sure. But he's asking for a tool to generate the needed JNI source code Smiley
I used SWIG in some projects, but it's not really nice. There are better suggestions, I assume.

erm, use java 5 language level then!
24  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Ask for a suggestion about engines on: 2008-06-26 19:07:05
unfortunately both ODE and JOODE (as it's a port of ODE) are not entirely deterministic

Any up to date IDE can do that - e.g. eclipse. IDEA has an even better dependency analysis...

29  Game Development / Game Mechanics / Re: Phys2D FixedJoint unstable? on: 2008-05-21 07:41:58
uh, I couldn't believe it, because I thought I have read some posts on the ODE list about ODE being deterministic... but looking at the code it really uses random numbers Shocked
