1  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Collision detection crash on: 2014-04-13 17:20:15
Wow. I feel stupid.

I incremented newY instead of newY_.

This caused it to loop infinitely.

How the fudge did I miss that?!
2  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / [SOLVED] Collision detection crash on: 2014-04-13 16:55:46
I'm trying to make a simple (everything's a 16x16 square) top-down game with Slick2D. My homebrew collision detection thingy works perfectly until the player moves upwards underneath a blocking hitbox - then the game stops responding and crashes with no error message. My moving code:

Input input = container.getInput();
if(input.isKeyDown(Input.KEY_UP) || input.isKeyDown(Input.KEY_W))
{
   y = hitbox.y = Collision.findNextAvailableY(x, y, (int)(hitbox.y - SPEED * delta));
}
if(input.isKeyDown(Input.KEY_LEFT) || input.isKeyDown(Input.KEY_A))
{
   x = hitbox.x = Collision.findNextAvailableX(x, y, (int)(hitbox.x - SPEED * delta));
}
if(input.isKeyDown(Input.KEY_RIGHT) || input.isKeyDown(Input.KEY_D))
{
   x = hitbox.x = Collision.findNextAvailableX(x, y, (int)(hitbox.x + SPEED * delta));
}
if(input.isKeyDown(Input.KEY_DOWN) || input.isKeyDown(Input.KEY_S))
{
   y = hitbox.y = Collision.findNextAvailableY(x, y, (int)(hitbox.y + SPEED * delta));
}

   if(y < newY)
   {
      while(isBlocked(new Rectangle(x, newY_, 16, 16)))
      {
         newY_--;
      }
   }
   else if(y > newY)

Anyone got an idea what's going on?
3  Java Game APIs & Engines / Engines, Libraries and Tools / Re: Slick2D game flickers on Linux on: 2013-12-02 01:10:33
Slick2D is built on top of LWJGL. Every time you call a method in, say, Graphics, Slick makes at least one LWJGL call. Just saying.

Never mind, it was Windows messing up audio devices.

Let's just say that your code is the first that's been recompilable after I decompiled it... a while ago I found some JARs from one of my old projects so I decompiled it and it was littered with errors.

Sorry for the massively late reply, I've not been on JGO for months.

Try java -jar Fetriz.jar

You usually need the '.jar' in my experience.
7  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / [SOLVED] Unable to locate OpenAL library on: 2013-12-01 17:52:23
I am trying to create a simple randomised maze game using Slick2D and up until about five minutes ago, the sound worked. With no change to code, a SlickException is thrown. The entire output:

Finished it! About as difficult as the later levels of Portal 2 IMHO.
9  Games Center / WIP games, tools & toy projects / Re: Tower of the Deathmaster on: 2013-07-07 10:38:19
Got up to the soul levels after completing everything below *ahem*multiplying health, attack and defense by 1000*ahem*, but they're completely empty. Is this intended behaviour? Nice port, by the way.
