Cool! Thanks.

Jesus, that Perlin noise is SLOOOOOOOW

That seems.... at least ten times slower than perlin's implementation

I haven't really played much with any other perlin noise makers, so I have no clue in this, but I'll certainly take your word for it. I've got something else cooking right now, but trying to speed things up is yet another item on the list for the future.

Thanks for trying it out.  Anything else I should work on?

Those are great ideas.  I'll get the zip file together as soon as I can.

The demo webstart or applet will definitely take longer, but they are now on my todo list.  No promises, though. Smiley

Thanks!

Hi all.  Long time reader, first time poster  . . .  Smiley

I wanted to share a bit of work I've just completed.  I've been interested lately in generating random maps, so I was looking into Perlin noise, which led me to libnoise, a C++ library.  You can read about it here: http://libnoise.sourceforge.net/index.html

libnoise is a great library, so I decided to do a Java port to help me understand what it was doing. Here it is:

http://github.com/TJHJava/libnoiseforjava

I've tested it a bit, and you can find some example mains in the wiki there.  It seems to work okay, but more eyes are always better.

Hope you like it.
