1  Games Center / Showcase / [Action-RPG/Strategy-Game] Heavenbrook on: 2011-04-19 18:05:35
I want to announce the alpha of my first game which hopefully won't be the last (it's under active development):

Heavenbrook

Here a little video about the current fighting system
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1h0xSeSG6pc

Your character as a Human with iron armor and a crossbow

To the game:

The game is a mix of an action-RPG and a strategy game.
You start as a single character from a race of your choice. Every race has different strengths and weaknesses (lizards can reproduce themselves etc.)
The Land (in the moment only one isle) is populated by different  AI-controlled factions which fight against each other.
Every Faction has a unique target related to their story (finding an relict, destroying all other factions or simply build up a big city).

Nearly everything in the gameworld will be randomly generated: Every Dungeon, the whole Landscape (excluding some houses, because they will be implemented as plans).

Over the game you can choose your own way. You can mine in dungeons or lead a robber band. There is no specific goal and the game never ends.
The game always wants to give the player a challenge: You are mighty and have a big fortress? Oh no, your folks start a rebellion.

The fighting system is in a hack'n'slay-like style. Press the buttons as fast as you can but if you play as a archer or a mage you have to think of course.
There will be around a dozen different weapons (bows, crossbows, swords, daggers, axes, staffs, spears) everyone with unique animations.

The controlls will be optimized for keyboard and gamepad. I also have build in a splitscreen mode (without player limit, but we will see) so you can play with friends together on one pc.

I used Slick for the rendering. Tilemap and all Objects, Particles etc. will be calced from my own system.

For the Moment i don't make an playable demo until the game is ready for you Tongue (and until i understand webstart with slick...) but i can make videos.
When i have enough things in the game (ki, factions, cities, dungeons) that it makes fun i will start to make regular releases.

More Infos on my new Blog: http://teemperor.tumblr.com/ and http://heavenbrook.tumblr.com/ (newer blog, no entries yet).

Thanks for Responds!

Arg, my bad  Roll Eyes I thought the left blue block is the player and the right is the enemy but the player is the white block Shocked

That's great! How do you implement the KI? Scripts (Lua etc) or Java-classes?

When i read my post i think "my english is horrible...  Shocked"

Jay, a german Game  Grin

I like the Game but the KI sometimes suck. The "Hard"-Guy always try to jump on me even if i am far away. So i am on a Bird and he always try to reach me until the block under him disappeared and he died Oo. And the Hard-KI-Guy sometimes didn't notice that he is at the left/right end of the level when he try to escape me (i'm jumped on him).

And why do you use äöü at some words and sometimes you write ae, oe, ue?  persecutioncomplex

Oh, and the three-headed monkey makes me lough and i dead   Angry

EDIT: Oh, and at the "The winner is..."-Screen both blocks says the same thing:

EDIT2: Do you add costumable KI's in the future?

sudo update-java-alternatives --set java-6-sun
sudo update-alternatives --config java

On the level with the two big green snakes i found a bug. I was killed by the snakes and i lost my fedora which floated in the air. The little mens shot up and keep the fedora about 5 minutes in the air. The Problem is i can't respawn until the fedora hit the ground  Undecided Oh, and it seems that in the same level the keylistener react very slowly and the game lags (my PC: Amd64 5200+, 4 GB RAM ?). But everythink else was great!
