I'm so out of the loop! What movie is it?

it's from Offic Space

Tom, did you write squareheads?  If so, terrific work, keep it up!

I'm starting to figure out oop slowly but surely.  It's just hard switching from a procedural mind set I guess .. or I'm just an idiot Smiley.

Is the avatar really annoying or do you just not like the movie it's from?  If it really is annoying I'll change it to something else.

I've read about that a lot over the past couple days and it does look really interesting.  I had thought about joining up but I really doubt I could contribute anything, especially code wise right now.  If you can think of something that I could do to help though let me know and I'll send you my contact info.

I pretty much just know the basics.  I have a book that I bought and I've gone through the tutorial a little bit.  After doing some more reading, I think your right that I should just jump into java2d.  I'm not entirely knew to programming, I did a ton of QBasic way back in the day and I've done a fair ammount in C.  The biggest hurdle is trying to figure out OOP Smiley.

I was only able to post here once before my computer died, I've got a new one and I'm ready to pick up Java again.  I've decided against starting off with a text adventure because I can't write well enough to make it interesting and nobody would play it anyway (not even me).  I have a few ideas about other text mode games I can do just to get into the swing of things before I move on to graphical programming.

From what I can tell, Java doesn't have any commands to control the cursor position or color for plain old text mode, am I correct or did something slip by me?  I'm fairly certain I could do it with a combo of swing and awt but I think that's pushing it a little far for a couple simple text mode games.   Does anyone have any ideas on other ways I could do this?  I want to stay away from third party librarys for now until I get the basics of the language down.

5  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Question about oop on: 2004-09-02 21:13:52
Hello everyone, I'm new to Java and need a little help.  Most of the programming I have done has been in QBasic and C, so OOP is a whole new beast for me.  I'm going to make a simple little text adventure just to get the basics of the language down but I'm not really sure how to split it up into seperate objects.  These are the seperate objects I've though of so far :

rooms (store the info for the rooms)
items (all the info for the items)
commands (go, get, look etc.)
monsters (stuff that bleeds)
npcs (people who want you to find lost puppys)

Am I going in the right direction or am I thinking of this all wrong?  Anyone have any suggestions to get me started off right?  Thanks!
