I've nearly finished my crossword game for my uni dissertation and am trying to optimise it looks wise for a Sony T610 as this is the phone I own.

I have the following 2 issues, any help would be much appreciated! :

1.  I create an implicit list and then add to it the commands 'view' and 'back'.  However, my phone adds 'select' to the list itself meaning my commands are shifted over into a menu and 'select' does nothing.

How do i either remove this 'select' command, or alternatively get at its functionality so i can move the action associated with 'view' to 'select'?

and...

2.  I use a textBox for users to enter their answers to clues and have the content type set to 'any'.  However, this means that my phone adds the full set of text options (Language, help, spell etc.)  when all I need is the 'OK' feature to accept the input.

Is there any way of stripping away these redundant options?

Can anyone point me to a good tutorial on how to capture key presses on forms?

Part of my game has a form on display and I need to know when the key '5' is pressed?

I thin it might be something to do with the itemStateListener but im not sure?

Now just need to know how to access the functionality of buttons that my phone's profile adds, as opposed to me specifically adding them in my code (see above).

Hey,

A really newb question but is there a command to clear a form (ie. delete all its contents)?

I'm assuming there must be, but cant manage to google it and i've left all my textbooks at university?  Roll Eyes

Secondly, im nearly there with the implementation of my crossword game but have found a problem with the way my sony ericsson T610 implements it.

The viewing of the clues is based around an IMPLICIT list that i add 2 commands to 'back' (self explanatory) and 'view' which loads a form holding the clue.  

This works fine on other devices but my sony adds a 'select' command to the list screen as im told most nokia's do.

How do i get at using this command?  I'll simply switch the functionality of the view command to this 'select' one as i have to demonstrate my game using my own phone but dont know how to code this?

i currently use the standard:

within commandAction to get at the view command.

Cheers for the advice shmooove,

When i looked back over the code i realised how wasteful it was so moved the image creation outside and for some reason that fixed the error!

Not complaining though!

Should be ready for porting OTA soon, will post the URL when ready.

Much appreciative of the help so far and have had a mini break through, by changing the error messages on the different image creations i've narrowed it down to the following piece of code.

Its a constructor that creates a list of numbered options and appends the same png as an icon to each element via a for loop:

Hey Ribbot,

Cant send u any screenshots as of yet because the problem has resurfaced! maybe u can help?

I'm pretty sure that the case sensitivity is the problem so i changed all my src files so that the extensions were uppercase (ie. PNG not png) as this is how the images are saved in the res folder.

However, despite the changes in the source files, the jar still lists the images with lowercase extensions, hence leading to 'images not found' errors?

I'm puzzled, why are the changes in the src code not filtering through to the jar?

any thoughts much appreciated???

Solved my own problem, very stupid mistake!!!

For future reference for those with similar problem,

("/example.PNG")  NOT ("/example.png") its case sensitive!

Still now i have a nullPointerException, ho hum...

Hi guys, im new to the forum and could really do with some help!
I'm writing a crossword game in MIDP 1.0 for my final year project and im having problems with my images.
The basic game is finished, it 'builds' fine in the emulator and works fine through the 'run' button.
However... when i build the package, the game does not work when i double click on the jad and i get the runtime error 'images not found'
I dont understand this, the images are all held in the pngs are all held in the 'res' folder, but somehow are not linked to?
i load all my images vis the 'Image.createImage("/example.png") command.
I'm really confused, ive tried moving the images around the various folders but it makes no difference, any help would be greatly appreciated.
