1  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: Extracting RGB from Short on: 2004-06-07 17:52:32
5 first is red, 6 next is green and the five last is blue.

r = (rgb & 0xF800) >> 11;
g = (rgb & 0x7E0) >> 5;
b = (rgb & 0x1F);

maybe bitshifting and then anding is more correct, don't know Smiley
2  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: Problems with BufferStrategy on: 2004-06-03 17:47:12
ask your window or GraphicsConfiguration for an image instead, either through createImage or createCompatibleImage or createCompatibleVolatileImage (think it was this name)
3  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: JDK 1.5.0-beta2 is now available on: 2004-06-02 06:59:32
One thing I've noted is that the new version(probably since 1.5.0 beta1?) uses XP-LookAndFell. Okay, that's nice, but, I'm using windows-classic-theme just to get rid of that plastic(in my opinion) look, but, my swing GUIs uses some standard winXP-theme-style.

(I do not use any UIManager.setLook...) It may be that?
4  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: so is vsync unlocked now? on: 2004-06-02 06:48:52
I discovered something similiar, I think   Smiley
If I use one buffer in my bufferstrategy the FPS goes up, guess it's not pageFlipped, seems logical. If I switch to two buffers though I get a steady framerate at the screen refresh-rate
5  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: 2d side/up scrolling tutorial? on: 2004-05-31 17:33:26
hm, pretty big question..

short answer:

* use copyArea
* use tile-images of sizes 2^n
* never draw stuff that you don't need to, take some time to compute what you need to draw instead of drawing just-in-case.

or that's what I think anyway.
6  Java Game APIs & Engines / Tools Discussion / jar in a jar?! on: 2004-02-29 08:44:18
Hi..
I have a bit of a problem with including a jar-file inside another jar. Well, I do get the jar-file inside the other jar, but my app don't want to use it. I thought it had something to do with the value of the class-path-attirbute in the manifest-file, but now I've tried some variants on it's value but can't get it to work. what would a correct value look like? If it's possible..

Do I need to unpack that second jar and then include it that way instead?

I just want ONE file in the end, not two, not three and not...

It do works by just having the secound jar-file in the same directory.
7  Java Game APIs & Engines / JOGL Development / Re: Screen Shot on: 2004-01-01 18:32:21
I just thought about the java-class: java.awt.Robot.  It maybe don't work when using GL?
8  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java Sound & OpenAL / Re: help me listen on: 2003-11-25 05:31:28
thanks alot! I will try the sound here at work too to see how it works.

thanks again!
9  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java Sound & OpenAL / help me listen on: 2003-11-24 17:45:56
I own a too hi-tech soundcard I think, it's great for music applications like reason and playing up 96khz with low latency, but when it comes to java it's a pain, or, it's more a matter of applications opening and closing the audiodevice as soon a sound is about to be played. Anyway, I don't care if it sound bad on my card since it's not som many with the same card.

But, too be on the secure side i would really appreciate if someone could take a mment and try this stuff I'm working on:
http://w1.261.telia.com/~u26126009/java/BIS.jar

it's just a game under develpment and it's really really under development, I just came to the point where I wanted to try out soundplaying.

[ESC] = quit
[arrows] = up/down/left/right..
[enter] = select
[CTRL] = fire (starts sound)

it's compiled using jdk1.4.2_01 and goes into fullscreen(hopefully)

What I want someone to listen for is pops/clicks when the sound start to play(when the fire-key is pressed during game).

it's a jar with a manifest running my main-class so just double-click it. it uses wav's, maybe stupied?
10  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: Game is not running smoot? on: 2002-12-15 09:28:50
uhm.
gf.drawImage((new ImageIcon("raptorSmall.gif")).getImage(),x,y,this);

This will load the image from disk each frame. Bad! Load it into an image object once and draw that one instead.  May help some I guess.
11  Game Development / Performance Tuning / Re: HiResTimer with JNI on: 2002-11-15 23:35:34
Just found something that could be useful.

Take a look into the MidiSystem and get hold od an MidiDevice through the MidiDevice.Info class. In it yuo'll have getMicrosecondPosition().

here's what it says:

public long getMicrosecondPosition()

Obtains the current time-stamp of the device, in microseconds. If a device supports time-stamps, it should start counting at 0 when the device is opened and continue incrementing its time-stamp in microseconds until the device is closed. If it does not support time-stamps, it should always return -1.

Returns:
the current time-stamp of the device in microseconds, or -1 if time-stamping is not supported by the device.

anyone tried it?

Anyone knows how to get notified on posting in all topics? Like in the old software?

/o

bah!

Listen to me!

Don't we use phones even though they are developed by some silly company?

- Yeah, but this i actually sun!(someone claims)

Some years ago(like three or something) I woked at ericson, they actually used Nokia monitors to their computers.

Think of it.

At the bottom line it's always money that makes sense.
If, this forum were written in java(which is highly possible and I think you all agree) would that make it outstanding?

Isn't there any reason to belive that folks would think "yeah, there's another forum like all others"?

I don't care too much. At the bootom line a forum is about sharing knowledge and not the unique/outstanding design of it.

The bad/good thing is that this is the reality, if the one with the money finds a tool that's cheaper than developing a tool that does the same thing, why develop it?

Why does java come with a great packages of classes when you could write all yourself using jni?

Why do you get so happy when finding a package doing the hard work for you easy?

This cgi-stuff may look bad to us, but, do you really think that a forum is some kind of high-end software? I rather accept great quality gfx-handling in java than a bullet-list in my messages!

sod-off!
g'night.
(It still would be nice with this forum using jsp, but, is it worth it?)

(excuse all english errors(if any), I'm a stupied swede you know..)
