1  Java Game APIs & Engines / J2ME / Any J2ME/Gaming book reccomendations? on: 2004-11-06 12:43:10
Hello!

I've been lurking around the forums for the last week or so and have decided to take a plunge into J2ME game development.  One thing that stands out right now is that I have a lot to learn.  I have considerable experience with J2SE and J2EE, but games and J2ME are completely new to me.  So, would any of you reccomend any particular books to help a novice such as myself close the gap?

Two books I'm considering right now are:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1592001181/qid=1099677243/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-8359506-2663912?v=glance&s=books
and
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1590593820/qid=1099677243/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-8359506-2663912?v=glance&s=books

So if you have any particular thoughts on those two it would be helpful.  I'm doing this as a side project and my primary platform will probably be PDAs, but porting it to phones would be nice (nothing like increasing market share).

I've already written up my game concept, but I now believe I've been too ambitious for an initial project.  I've drawn up a model for a turn based strategy game, and the user interface and AI will be particularly difficult to implement.

Thanks in advance for any reccomendations.
