Hmm j2se (1.)5.0 beta 2 is out and I never got the news...
2  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Heads up - 1.4.2_05 released on: 2004-07-02 18:27:13
What's up with the automatic updater? Angry
Isn't it supposed to figure out that a new version has been released or am I missing something here Huh
3  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Help! 1.5beta ate my machine! on: 2004-06-09 02:31:22
I fear that simply deleting it will NOT restore any of the things it shouldn't have touched but has broken, so ... is my only choice to delete ALL JVM's and re-install from scratch?

I thought that was your solution Huh
4  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Those who have not received a CD.... on: 2004-06-09 02:18:47
Thanks Chris!

But what's up with the e-mail address - now I actually have to type the thing... :-/

EDIT: I can copy&paste (duh), but I still have to do some manual fixing...not as bad as really typing the whole thing though Cool
5  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Help! 1.5beta ate my machine! on: 2004-06-04 03:06:36

well, it looks like you've found a solution, so this is just a warning, not a request for help?
6  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: CD's ARE IN! on: 2004-06-04 02:55:44
In a desperate attempt to direct this conversation back on topic:

Has anyone received their CDs yet?
7  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: What do you think about Pointbase Server? on: 2004-06-02 01:20:31
What do you think about Pointbase Server?

I"ve never really used it before myself, but I think it's as lightweight as you can get.
8  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: trouble loading images in Applet on: 2004-05-27 21:56:41
Regarding forward & backward slashes...
Try something like (a String) or (a primitive char).

In case you still care :-/
9  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Where the heck? on: 2004-05-27 21:40:37

Isn't that because of Atkins?

P.S.  About your CDs?  Don't worry, they are on their way Smiley

10  Java Game APIs & Engines / Tools Discussion / Re: GameSpace - Any comments ? on: 2004-05-23 22:50:23
So what's this "industry standard" .X file format?

As far I know, it's the only export for GS Light. Sad
11  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Collections API in ArcadeGame Programming? on: 2004-05-22 03:01:52
No offense Inquisitor Wink
12  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: CD's ARE IN! on: 2004-05-22 02:51:08

13  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Microsoft's Real Plan For XNA Gaming Dominatio on: 2004-05-22 02:46:48
Who cares?

Cas Smiley

Good point.
14  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: [OT] How to get daily jvm builds ? on: 2004-05-22 02:43:47
I doubt the "daily build", if it exists, would be more stable than j2se 1.5.0 beta 1.

Just my opinion, though.
15  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Collections API in ArcadeGame Programming? on: 2004-05-21 02:56:11
LinkedList is definitely not OK if you want to frequently access stuff in the middle, which is an O(n) operation.

Don't know if that was any use at all because most people already know it Embarrassed
16  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Console Java on: 2004-05-21 02:53:46
I took the survey and checked "java on XBox"...

Just wondering, how would you transfer, per se, the game to the XBox after you are done? Do you just burn the thing on a CD-ROM or something?
17  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: CD's ARE IN! on: 2004-05-21 02:46:05
We had a second batch done, so plenty to go around.  Send mailing information to and we'll get them out shortly.

I know that doesn't answer the question (esp. because the post was from almost two months ago), but in case you want to give the order a try, that's how you would do it.
18  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: Godlike powers warp YABB? on: 2004-05-21 02:40:02
You're the (or one of the) YaBB God here, so you should know Wink

But just to let you know (and possibly make you feel more unfortunate), this has not happened to me/my machine/my browser/the forum I am seeing.

INSERT/EDIT: I do not intend to make you feel more unfortunate, but you may still feel so nonetheless.
No bad intentions.
19  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: [OT] How to get daily jvm builds ? on: 2004-05-21 02:22:02
Just wondering: Why would you want to get daily jvm builds?
20  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Microsoft's Real Plan For XNA Gaming Dominatio on: 2004-05-21 02:16:31
My connection is always slow, so I had to download the whole thing instead of streaming. Sad

What does XNA stand for anyways?
21  Java Game APIs & Engines / Tools Discussion / Re: What is the best debugger? on: 2004-05-19 00:44:10
I know I will be criticized for this, but you can also try NetBeans.
22  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 3D / Re: Milkshape3D loader written w/ animation suppor on: 2004-05-15 15:31:35
I'm confused. Huh

So you are Jack Lindamood?
23  Discussions / Miscellaneous Topics / Re: No hires timer in 1.5? on: 2004-05-15 15:22:04
Just wondering, does the nano timer ever "wrap around" when it reaches a certain value?
24  Java Game APIs & Engines / Tools Discussion / Re: Anyone use jUnit? on: 2004-05-14 00:45:25
jUnit is pretty good at doing what it is supposed to do.

In the beginning, it slows dev time, but in the end, IMO, you save time because you can re-run the same test cases (as opposed to ad-hoc testing).

Wow. That really sounded like some lame cliche. Sorry.
25  Game Development / Newbie & Debugging Questions / Re: Simple hiscore encryption on: 2004-05-12 00:49:29
If you feel like it, use javax.crypto. Quite simple to use, I can show you an example if you want.

Or, you can amuse yourself by inventing your own encryption scheme. Combine Caesar with some other simple algorithms, and it'll be kinda hard to break.

If people can decompile your bytecode, however, it's a different story. Sad
26  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Enquiry about how to learn Java Games on: 2004-05-12 00:38:04
Next time, please use the "Newless Clubies" board @ Wink

Look at the Subject lines of the topics there, and check out the ones that seem like they are for beginners.

Good Luck & Welcome to Java Games Forums Smiley
27  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Speling Erorr on: 2004-05-12 00:31:05
A quote from a while ago:
There is a beta release of the new YaBB software out, but I CRINGE at the idea of testing it out here.  However, as soon as it is out of beta we will switch over.  The big changes:

- MUCH faster
- Better search
- Top mods included and easier to add

As soon as I hear about a release, I'll let everyone know!

We'll see Smiley
28  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Speling Erorr on: 2004-05-12 00:25:23
Btw. there is also a spelling mistake in your subject.  Tongue

Trying a bit too hard to be ironical Embarrassed
29  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: Speling Erorr on: 2004-05-11 04:03:04
I should add that the error is a double "be"...

Also when is that new version of the forum coming in? It probably (hopefully) has fixes for many of the things mentioned in the suggestions (esp. the e-mail notification).
