i was checking some games with webstart

and started running out of hard disk space
i used to be able to find them in the control panel and remove them but i cant find anymore (go guess why)

where are they located on the hard drive? (so i can remove them by deleting them manually)

being able to continue the sequence of random numbers (even if its not needed for DnD) strikes me as beautiful, so i want to do it.
thats why i tried, i couldnt, i asked and i learned

(maybe i or somenone else will find a good reason of using it apart from DnD)

in my (miserable) attempt to creating a Dungeon Master assistant software
i have noticed that people use their laptops and notebooks and netbooks and iPhones and..
and ofcourse they are really spoiling the fun but since they do it, why shouldnt i write a software?

the main idea is this: all (pseydo) random number generator algorithms try to fulfill some statistical criteria that apply to (trully) random numbers. but, as the Law of Large Numbers dictates, the sample (the random numbers used in the game) must be larger than countable in order for the hypothesis to be true (randomness). since the game of DnD uses a lot of dice , i believe that it can improve on the illusion of random numbers , in comparison to just changing the seed and using the same math from the beginning. for example having a day of luck and another of bad luck instead of having an averge day everytime


if only i were smarter i would be able to trully understand this piece of code

i couldnt find a good way to express the subject in the title so, if what you are about to read is not what you thought you would from the title, sorry!!!

what i didnt find anywhere is how to save the place the sequence has reached so far, so the code can continue from then on

the game asks the RandomNumberGenerator for a number
the first generated number is returned
for the second request the RNG returns the second number the specific algorithm generates
and so on

after the game stops,  i want it for the RNG to be able to know how many numbers it have generated so far, so as to continue the process of the "generation" from that place of the sequence

the stupid way is to save the number of numbers generated, and during the game initiallization ask for the RNG to create (and dumb) as many numbers as have been created....

do i make sense?

(my guess is that there are algorithms that allow you to pick the place of sequence you want it to start generating from and not from place 1 all the time.. but i cant seem to find any, if only  i were smarter i would create my own...)

its only for .class files and a gif
i created the manifest file
run the jar command
the jar was created
double clicking doesnt start the app

i have been reading about how to create an executable jar file, i have read every single online tutorial plus a couple of chapters from my universities books but still cant do it
am i retarded or what

i do manage to create the jar file, which i guess means that the jar utility works, when i unzip to check the insides everything (class files + Manifest with the correct Main-class: attribute) is there

but when i double click it nothing happens
when i run the application from my IDE, it runs
i also downloaded a random jar from the web to see if the execution process has any problem but no, it executed properly after double clicking

so what might be the problem? should i read the documentation of the jar format in the sun site? its way too long and way too technical for me to understand (not the tutorial about how to use, the documentation of the jar format) and even if i did i am not so sure i would understand the inner workings of the format, and even if i did i am not so sure it would help

so i double click the LineOfSight.jar and i am expecting it to work
(it works fine when using the jnlp)

it opens the "Progess : Just a few Moments: Quit (Button)" frame and never executes

what can i do to run it as a desktop ? (and not compiling the source i was given generously)

i dont think they are that helpfull for me to post the same details from the other demo

i ve been reading about Java and Sound
this is what i get:32 channels for sampled audio 32 channels for MIDI
so i suppose that if you have a MIDI sequence with 7 instruments, 7 out of the 32 channels are being used (or one channel for each sequence? )

why cant i have another MIDI sequence playing i have 25 remaining, unused ( or not ? ) channels

its kind of a theoritical question,so i suppose i will need a theoretical answer ( e.g. this was done by Sun engineers for reasons A,B and C)
