Hi there, just finished my first android game:"Wood Games 3D"

Actually it started as a 3D-test using libgdx and android....and now it is more or less finished Cheesy
(Eventhough I really had to force myself to keep going!) It is an athletic sports game in an outdoor setting.
7 disciplines like long jump, sprint, hurdles,middle distance,shooting... a daily online world championship (in changing disciplines) and
(on android) achiements and challenges.

I used blender (2.49) for creating the scene including hundrets of helper-objects e.g. for setting
the path. I tried to work as much as possible in blender using properties and mapping "Components" with this.
E.g. I have a mill with rotating wings. For that I only had to add a component-property with rotator and another
property telling the axis. All of this infos are exported by the irrlicht-exporter and imported by my own importer.
I had to write a scenegraph which is very very^n fragile Cheesy (Good to have my good old jME2 by hand for gettting
some help:D) That really cost some nerves Cheesy

Here how it looks in blender:

Well, I created the game for android and as web-version for which I actually rewrote the community-server for
leaderboards and the world championship. The android-version uses scoreloop for that (excluding Championship) Cheesy

I also created a trailer in blender (and forced my friends to post them whereever they can Cheesy).

Hehe, nice! Actually I'm quite sure many people will say "Oh no, just another engine!" Cheesy But actually creating an engine on your own will give you so much experience and knowledge about all that low level programming.Even you might come to a point where you throw the whole code out of the orbit you will forever profit from keep on rocking.

Hehe, I can only underline that! I use libgdx and actually I only use my phone from time to time to control that really everything is one to one. But I can't remember there was a single time that was the case...libgdx really roxx!

Ryanm has so right! The emulator works ok for widget-based stuff but openGL is a real mess. At the moment I'm developing an android game and testing this on the emulator results in about 3-4fps in contrast to 30-40 on the device (HTC Desire).

Hola, just wanted to show you my game 'Greedy Fishing'. It was initally developed for the miniLD#20 48h game-
coding-competition with the theme 'greed' (or 'fishing'). Actually the game is a bit like a blackjack game on a lake.
Two people(one computer) have to decide one after each other if they want to go on fishing but they must not exceed
the weight-limit. The one that comes closest to the limit wins the pot. After you lost all your money the next round starts...
as a little gag the looser is "punished" to drink a beer! Cheesy But actually without real effect. Just something for the eye. Cheesy
(I planned to make more of this, but I rigged the models quite poorly so it was really no fun animating them...)

Actually I have to admit it is not so really challenging and becomes boring after short time, but it was fun making it (with jMonkeyEngine 2) and I actually got more familiar with the marvelous nifty-gui ( ). Nevertheless even I know it is not
a blockbuster I added it to a gaming-portal (gamejolt) just to see how this could work. As you all know deploying is also a challenge. I made an exe- and a webstart-version. So if you want to have a look:

EDIT: ok,...just saw that there was one on 11th of april! too bad, wasn't around! We could need something like a compo-newsletter, where you get informed when a compo is announced. I'm not so often around but always interested in something like this...

Sry, I have to quit! First I had the same disease as always too much basic works (which brought me again much further in my 3d programming) but that needed too much time and and second I have no time anymore due to an unexpected appointment. To all the guys working on it, good luck and I'm very excited to see your games.

I had the same problem! For me a strategy game is an RTS. But nevertheless every game that needs a certain strategy to finish the game should be also a strategy game also!? Let's say chess! Everyone would agree that this is a strategy game, wouldn't?
Well,...but with thinking like this every cardgame would be a strategy game as well. Lol...hard to draw the lines....when I read the rules ido mentioned about realtime or roundbased! So it was obvious that he meant RTS...even I know that it is impossible for me to finish something that is understandable and cool! But I give it a try... Cheesy

Hehe,...prohibition! Yep...that is my theme as well! Cheesy Nothing to show until now! Just struggling as always with basic 3d-stuff!
Cheesy For sure there will be a sequel for the thumb-down-award-winning and browser-eating rocky! Cheesy But that is okay for me at the moment! Still I'm  learning all the 3d-stuff and
every competition I'm trying to ram the wall with my head and once it will break! Sooner or later *lol*

Now, I'm just glad the thread shows some action! Before my motivation was decreasing more and more...

Ok...just for fun and to show that there is actually not much:

Here you see a test scenario! With a small selectable figure and a lot of bounding-spheres that I actually don't need anymore cause I had really problems implements moving around them to the actual destination....Now I threw away the try with the dynamic pathfinding and go to use waypoints...I hope and think that this will work better....

...and strategy game is a quite complex thing... not so easy! Especially to build it so it is understandable for the others Cheesy

@demonpants: I think that is a good suggestion -  with the 2 compos! 60 hours would have been ok for me. And one month would even give me enough time to include some gameplay! *lol* Cheesy! Time to start the (work)day and keep on rocking...

Hmm,..I had some problems with my firefox (windows) as well. If it is ok with the rules I will release the game as download without changing the code!?

Hehe...yes, most of the time was used for that animations! I'm always quite good in finding the wrong priorities. But for me the games is okay although in comparison with the game-masters' blockbusters it has not much gameplay Cheesy .

What do you mean by moving alone?

Ok,...let's assume your character is a model you loaded somehow in jME. Then you have a node or spatial. Both you can add controllers (  method addController() ). With the help of the spataialtransformer you can for example move one node/spatial from one point to another or rotate it...have a look here:

Well,...yes the game is just about reaction! The faster you hit the key you should the more points you get!
And only if you get more then 1100 points Rocky will make it to the pool! I know,...not the burner but hey I

Yeah people, it was really fun....even I started much too late...but  I don't
regret that I decided to participate.(with the consequence that I only slept
2h = I'm now in a very good shape at work! Cheesy )
