All of us should respect others point of view even if it is completely different than our.
Do not be intimidated judges, I appreciate your work.
And remeber this is only fun:).

In my opinion there will be no perfect solution for judging.
The idea of judging and community voting with giving feedback is realy good.

We can describe the problem in this way: how to avoid wrong positioning in case if of the rate is completely different than other.
Maybe we should try e.g. expected value rather than arithmetic mean of all scores

But there still will be only smoothing:)

Thanks guys, this is very nice.

In previous version of this game shifting time was possible back and forward, but finally I decided to only to shifting time back, and instead of this add more levels.

Maybe in next year I will do this...Smiley.

I adapted my game SantaClaus to Android  Smiley.
SantaClaus was submited to java4k 2011 competition and later totaly rewritten - see www.picadorstudio.com
You can try the signed .apk by downloading from
http://www.picadorstudio.com/SantaClaus.php (it is not avaiable on android market).

It was tested on Galaxy Mini with android 2.2.
To control simply move your finger on the screen

Simple main rule: make game under 4kb in pure java, no other restrictions.

Hello fellows.
During work on my 4k projects i have found that there is relationship between size (expressed in bytes ) of .class file (no signed and no MF specified) and size of compressed file (containing only one class and compressed on path javac->7z->proguard->JoGa->pack200->Kzip ) which can be expressed as:

y = size of compressed file
x = size of class file

(1) y=(x^P)*(e^R), where P=0,716 and R=1,532

Now we can define compression factor (CF) which is:

(2) CF=100-(y/x)*100

Here are diagrams





Now lets assume that R=2,14*P, where P I believe is factor which describes compression path. From diagrams above you can see that if P is decreasing CF is increasing.
If we someway can estimate value of P or approximate value of P based on its changes dependent of compression path we can more consciously impact on compression path e.g. adding more steps, removing some steps or repeating some steps.

It is challenge to write good remake, especially under 4 kb.
Let's imagine someone who wants to write chess game.
Chess have rigid rules, so there is not much room for creativity, but it is possible to write better engines, improve performance, graphics, reduce bugs, etc.

About the competition.
I like it very much and I have been waiting for another edition. Unfortunately for most part of the year there is nothing happening.
Maybe would be better to allow submit games all the year. From time to time start up a topic for programmers, or something like that, to keep motivation.
By the end of the year there would be judging of all games submitted during passing by year.

Very nice looking game. I have played against myself and enjoyed it:). Good work.
Maybe you should introduce registration for users to make easier looking for opponents. Logged users could wait in queue for play or choose their favorite opponents or challenge somebody to a game. Some stats would be also possible.
There is only one map?

I think in final version the controls will be slightly different, I would like to introduce mouse controls.
Now I'm working on map of city.
Trucker will get part in next Java4k competition, quiet lot of work before me to reduce some code:).

Thank you for replay.
I am working on J4K 2D platform engine to put much more effort on level design and performance of the games.
The idea is that the elements on the screen displayed during play may be classified and tend  in general way, so it is possible to define all of them in one place, different elements for different games independently of engine.
SantaClaus runs on early version of this engine.

Thanks for point at this problem. You know, when you test something and lunch the game hundred of times you just learn it with all its imperfections.
It looks that the engine needs to be rebuilt a little.
