do you perhaps know of an example of an animated windowed applet using active rendering?

is it possible?  everything that discusses active rendering seems to also be tied in with full screen mode.  i don't have the luxury to do the full screen.

so, can you actively render into a windowed GUI application?

after reading about volatile images and such, i was under the impression that active rendering is only for full screen exclusive mode.  what i'm working on cannot be full screen, must be windowed.

so, am i wrong?  if so, pointing me in the right direction would be much appreciated.. i.e. a primer, tutorial, etc.

do requests for screen painting pile up or does Java know to combine them all into one?
