1  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Re: Image Shape Manipulation on: 2009-03-11 22:58:20
Thanks for your help, and that's what I was afraid of... I didn't think you easily could.

2  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / Image Shape Manipulation on: 2009-03-09 23:06:23
I'm trying to figure out how to take a square image and transform it into a different quadrilateral. Basically get from a rectangular image with 4 90 degree angles to a quadrilateral with one 90, one 30, one 110, and one 130 degree angle. Is that possible in Java and how can I do this?

Thanks Rowdy.
3  Game Development / Game Play & Game Design / Re: Advance Wars Style Movement on: 2009-02-20 20:52:39
I did think about recalculating the path everytime, but sometimes there are multiple paths to one spot. So if you wanted to take a path where you wanted to go around a forest instead of going through, all you had to do is move around it (Take the smartest path, not necessarily the shortest). If you need more explaining just ask.

If I were programming, my thought logic would be
1. Get possible spots (Highlighted Spots)
2. Keep adding to queue as the cursor moves
3. If it went backward, take out that last element (May want to consider using arraylist)
4. If the spot is "out of reach" and inside highlighted, find the shortest path to that point. (Clear queue and recursively find the shortest)
5. PROFIT!!!

There's my 2 cents. Good Luck.

Oops, sorry I missed that. Thanks for your help!
6  Java Game APIs & Engines / Java 2D / 2.5D on: 2009-02-18 02:52:08
I have a few good game ideas, but they won't operate well in a 2d environment, so I was hoping if someone could point me out to a good tutorial on 2.5d programming. Sorry if this is in the wrong place, to me it's technically still 2d.

Thanks, Rowdy.
7  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2009 / Re: Arena4k *Update 1 on: 2009-01-29 21:55:49
Ok found the problem with the graphics, somehow by moving the setSize(WIDTH+left+right,HEIGHT+top+bottom) ahead of some variables fixed the problem. And I also made it to where if you're running low fps somehow, the game changes the speed you move. If there are anymore errors or suggestions, please tell me. Oh, and post your highscores, mine is 529 Smiley

EDIT - If you think the switching weapons button layout it akward (like I do), please give me some suggestions or notify me.
8  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2009 / Re: Arena4k on: 2009-01-29 01:25:51
Thats what I was fearing... Hopefully i'll have that fixed in a bit. Thanks!

EDIT - Didn't fix it and I found out it runs really really slow on some computers, I'm going to have to implement a whole other framing system instead of a fixed fps. This is probably why the keys stick and it randomly gets slow (and slower). I'll fix it in time though.
9  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2009 / Re: Arena4k on: 2009-01-29 00:57:30
The only issue I had was that the game would randomly slow down making it much easier to evade and destroy the enemies. [This could just be my laptop tho..]
This is completely random right? Because I think the most likely place where that would happen is the spawn.

I had some problems with the controls, they get stuck, so I release the key but the ball keeps moving for about 1 second.
Odd, there may be lag with the process event method. Because the code is pretty much if(key pressed) move. Does is happen when your moving diagonally or all of the time?

Thanks, i have a few ideas where these could be messing up. And I forgot to ask a few questions before, if you're playing on a pc, can you see the fps and the highscore on the bottom? I think there are some graphical bugs regarding insets or different font sizes that i have to look into.

Thanks for the feedback,
10  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2009 / Arena4k *Update 2 on: 2009-01-28 23:19:14
This is my first 4k game, and one of my first games period. It's basically a simple birds eye shooter. I don't expect much in the way of score or placing (I'm aiming for a passing grade). Please tell me what you think, any bugs, suggestions, and highscores. I attached the executable jar to the post. And here's the link to the webstart (Not Updated).

Moving - WSAD
Aim + Fire - Mouse
Select Weapon - 1 2 3
Cycle Weapon - Q E
Restart - R
Pause - P

Hit the green "enemies" with your three guns (Pistol, Shotgun, Machine Gun). You get ammo for shotgun and machine gun by killing enemies with pistol. If you get "hit" by an enemy, you lose 1 life and you turn red and are invulnerable for 3 seconds.

Enjoy, Rowdy!

EDIT : A few things I would like to say.
Thanks for hosting this competition appel, it really helped my programming skills and it was fun to do.

Update's - (Replaced Jar)
1 -(Hopefully) fixed the graphic displacement for pcs Didn't fix it, and found another problem
2 -Fixed the graphics error in the panel and made the game compensate for lag

Oh, I misunderstood what you wanted me to do... my fault. I got it to 4077 without that though, now I can make it even smaller, thanks a lot!

12  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2009 / Re: Need Help Compressing on: 2009-01-28 21:23:37
Ok, thanks for the responses. I took Hsaka's idea and got ProGuard and JoGa to work which brought it down to just over 4k (4101 bytes, it's killing me), and I used both of the zip programs which compressed them in the zip file, but when I extracted them, they went back to normal size. So, im pretty sure I can go through my code more and get it down to 4096 bytes. Thanks for your help.

13  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2009 / Re: Need Help Compressing on: 2009-01-27 23:54:01
I haven't been able to compress mine really because I have a mac and most run .exe or .bat files, and my windows pc is terrible. Oh, and btw I have been running all of this on the pc.

Good Luck with your game luisoft,
14  Games Center / 4K Game Competition - 2009 / Need Help Compressing on: 2009-01-27 22:28:31
I saw this competition and decided to compete in it, and over the weekend I finished my game. It's called Arena4k, but it's 5-6k... I tried compressing with 4KJO and other compressors, but they always give me errors even though the jar runs fine. If someone could help me out or point me out to a good compressor, that would be great.

Thanks in advanced,
