1  Java Game APIs & Engines / JInput / Re: Devs: Basic flow for recognising a device on: 2009-01-07 04:49:48

Just to let people know, I've got the SpaceNavigator working with jinput under Mac OSX.

The change to the jinput Java code is almost trivial. Is there somewhere I should send a patch?

Looking at the issue, it seems to me that this aprt of the code could actually be parameterised and then changes suh as mine could be made to via a properties file, or through an API, rather than modifying the source and rebuilding the JAR.

Thanks again for this great library - you've just made a number of people really happy :-)

Guess what??

My app is now recognising the SpaceNavigator device.

Sadly, my program isn't getting any events from it at all, so I need to debug that now :-)

Thanks for listening guys, and I'll let you all know once I've got it working properly!

Ok, so the problem is that the SpaceNavigator is being seen as a MULTI_AXIS_CONTROLLER (quite reasonable), and there isn't any code for one.
Surely it's not so easy as just adding a line of code in OSXEnvironmentPlugin?

Oh well, one way to find out... Shocked)

Ah, ok answering my own question:  OSXEnvironmentPlugin...

Hi All,

I am trying to get JInput to recognise the SpaceNavigator on OSX.

With a bit of debugging code in the native libraries, I see that the native library is seeing the SpaceNavigator, and that java HIDDevice is being constructed for it. But it is not present in the array of Controllers that is passed to my user code.

So, what chain of events to I need to trace to find out where (and why) the SpaceNavigator HIDDevice is being discarded?

6  Java Game APIs & Engines / JInput / Building the native libs on: 2009-01-06 04:20:45
Hi all,

I have a couple of questions regarding building the JInput native libraries:

Q1. Is it possible to build the OSX native library on my linux box?
This would be much more convenient (and faster).

Q2. My Mac is an old PPC (G4 Cube) running OSX 10.4. When I try to build the native libraries, I get an error telling me it can't find the i686-gcc program. I've commented the Intel part out for the moment and am  building just the PPC part, but how do I get the intel part built on my PPC box?

I am using JInput to add support for various 3D devices, starting with the 3DConnexion SpaceNavigator, to an open-source Java 3D application (Art Of Illusion).
So far I have had partial success on linux (not all axes are detected), reasonable success on Windows, and no success on Mac OSX.
I've happily modified and rebuilt the linux native (.so) library, and am pretty sure the problem is in linux and not jinput.

However, on OSX the device is not seen at all, so I am trying to merge in code from a number of other sources to get the SpaceNavigator recognised under OSX.

Q3: Does anyone have any hints or pointers to other work on this that may help? I am happy to do the actual legwork, but any other code snippets involving the OSX HID system that I can find would be appreciated. Shocked)
