1  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: Physics on Android on: 2010-03-31 08:19:11
Hmmm but there are some games out there using Box2D or similar. Anyone knows how they are made? JNI bindings to Box2D? Camel Games has a few games like that - ShootU, Blow it Up, Crayon Physics clone. Any ideas?
2  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: Multiple Screen Res, the Droid and Tattoo on: 2009-11-17 16:27:15
Interesting question Kev - would also love to hear about peoples experiences. I got feedback from one Droid user saying that the game ran fine. As the terrain is auto-generated it just automatically generates that much more I guess. But will have to give it a seriuos look when I get around to it.
3  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: Hellevators - on Android! - RELEASED ! on: 2009-11-07 17:35:13
Fun game! works well on Hero 1.5. Appears well polished and I just love the humor, cool detail with the shaking of the little ones!
4  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: Ads on Android on: 2009-10-22 08:49:04
Admob has been pretty steady since we launched. Very interesting with Google - just signed up too. We already have two ad providers - Admob and Quattro Wireless. But QW isnt really that interesting so we are planning to get rid of that again.
5  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: Ads on Android on: 2009-10-20 15:56:34
I don't remember how we got the Admob SDK (my friend did the ad part). But email them - they are fairly responsive.

Hi Kev,

Now that your dual release has lived for a while out there any news on the distribution of sales/ donwloads on iphone vs android? Still pondering on releasing Air Attack on the iphone using XMLVM like you did. But I fear it won't be as easy as it seems...
7  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: How to get bug reports from users? on: 2009-10-09 08:27:12
FYI found this app which looks very promising:

enables users to find error log files and send them to developers!

8  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: How to get bug reports from users? on: 2009-10-08 18:27:46
Sounds great Kev, will look into that asap! Hopeing it works with different Views too - the problem may be caused by one of our ad providers which runs in a separate view - so we don't have much control over it or the option of catching exceptions from it.

Oh, if anyone has upgraded to the latest version of AA and have problems I would be tremendously thankful to hear about it! Unless there is a "send bug report" button ordinary users have a bit of a hard time sending bug reports :-)

9  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / How to get bug reports from users? on: 2009-10-08 17:52:45
Just released a new version of Air Attack that seems to cause problems for some users. Thankfully people are helpful and mail about the problems but they are hard to debug without the application log files. Does anyone know how the user can retrieve the log files from the application and send them to us?

Another, more complete, spacehulk remake for your amusement:

12  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: Android in China? on: 2009-09-27 10:06:16
Cool should be a fun game on Android :-)
13  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: Android in China? on: 2009-09-25 11:29:01
Admob: Results so far: 3% click through rate, 5 cents to me pr click. Based on a short period so may go up or down... right now I am looking at 10-20 USD from ads pr day so nothing that pays the rent.
14  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: Android in China? on: 2009-09-19 10:27:37
Free version with ads could still be a profitable way to make money.
15  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Android in China? on: 2009-09-17 18:09:24
Anyone has any experience targetting apps to China? I imagine a market with huge potential. But Google Market doesnt have China (yet). Also rumors are that Chinese operators have their own app store. Damn har to figure out though as all the sites are in chinese...!
16  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Hellevators ! on: 2009-09-17 17:37:47
Haha hillarious - would work great on Android!
17  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: iPhone + kev g on: 2009-09-13 17:26:47
Regarding Blood Bowl: I would call it something else and modify the rules to match the mobile format better - surely GW would shut it down immidiatly if there was any hints of copyright violation. I guess I just miss the violence in games :-) Actually iPhone gamers are 50% women though so more peaceful games could have a bigger potential.
18  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: iPhone + kev g on: 2009-09-13 17:23:48
I would just give the applet versions away; there is so much good stuff running in browsers that mobile games running in a browser has a hard time getting noticed - especially if access is restricted. Also I found it really hard to find any portals that would carry Java games.

Very interesting with the figures for iPhone - I have started the thought process for converting Air Attack to iPhone - would be great to hit so many more people!

Following your story with great interest :-)
19  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: iPhone + kev g on: 2009-09-13 09:35:27
Hi Kev,

Got my hands on an iPod and bought your game - good stuff :-) Love how simple yet deep it is. A few ideas:

- How about enabling online play? You could create a battlenet kind of service that matches people to one another. Given that it is turn based the networking shouldnt be too complicated.

- How about expanding on the concept to create something like for example Blood Bowl?

Yes, I know none of these ideas are easy and straight forward to implement :-) Also a few questions:

- Is anyone using the webplay? My game is available in the browser too (where it is much more fun if you ask me) but noone is playing it there.

- Any new updates on the iPhone/ Android download ratios now that the game has been out for a few days?

20  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Ads on Android on: 2009-09-13 09:15:10
Anyone has experience with advertisements in Android games? I am working on enabling ads from - chose them because they seem like the most established provider with the most accessible technical framework. If anyone else has played around with ads I would love to hear about your experiences!

Congratalations - that is great for a first day sales!!!

I paid out to a friends bank account in the US. Worked pretty painlessly.

Oh, and thanks for the flattery :-) My Android device is currently with another team member but will try your games as soon as I get the chance - I am sure they rank high in greatness :-)
23  Discussions / General Discussions / Re: iPhone + kev g on: 2009-09-04 05:49:40
Seriously? Since I went live 1-2 months ago the sales figures have been pretty steady - about 1000 trial DLs and $10 earnings a day. That should make 15 sales with the 70/30 share that (I believe) Google offers. Wasn't too impressed myself - it is beer money not rent money :-) But if best selling game didnt sell better then I guess I should be really happy!! Anyways it is awesome just to have people playing my game. The browser version is hardly played at all although I myself find that more fun :-)

Very interesting with the iPhone/ Android comparison - will as you again in a few weeks! :-) And will definitely look into xmlvm and your blog entry on that.

Personally I agree with the people that think that Android is bigger than iphone in a few years; going on the Android market is more of a long term investment I think.

Hi Kevin,

Super interesting stuff you are doing! I for one would be really interested in hearing about the download/ sales figures on the two platforms and how they compare! I released Air Attack on Android 1 month back. Sells maybe 15 copies a day, Lite version has maybe 1000 downloads a day. Would be super interesting to hear your experiences - especially because you have iPhone to compare with!

All the best,

25  Java Game APIs & Engines / Android / Re: ADC2 (Android Developer Challenge 2) on: 2009-08-28 20:19:08
So whats the deal - you cant submit something that is already on the market? It wont let me do that...
26  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Spacehulk Demo on: 2009-08-11 08:47:33
Good suggestions! True with the copyright. Would call it something else and not steal the models directly.
27  Games Center / Archived Projects / Spacehulk Demo on: 2009-08-10 15:38:41
Been playing with an idea for implementing a spacehulk'ish game for the Android/iPhone market. Spacehulk is an old boardgame that has been turned into a computer game a few times I think. I made a small demo of the idea and would love any feedback! I am not that happy about it right now and am thinking about what to change. So any feedback is welcome!

Start link:

It is just a demo so don't bother commenting on technical stuff but rather the idea.

Looks really cool - cant wait to try it!!

Have you thought about making an Android version?
29  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Air Attack - on Android! on: 2009-07-31 10:58:05
Hahaha well not sure about the details of the problem as my friend Alex did that part :-) But glad that it works for you and that you get 1.5 soon :-)
30  Games Center / Archived Projects / Re: Air Attack - on Android! on: 2009-07-31 10:43:07
Alrighty, uploaded a new version where sound is disabled on Android 1.1. Ranger: Does it work for you?

Cheers, M
