When you have a doubt with adsense, just ask Google : they usually reply quickly and than you know if your idea is safe or not ... but NEVER click (even once) in your own ads.

What's nice with that system is that once you have a working web site, money just comes in... you just have to learn how to increase your positionning in search engines on a few keywords (that's the hardest part, and it takes time to drive traffic).

Well I've made a few bucks (more than $5000 actually) with Jack Flowers, from a gametrust contest last year but the game hasn't been released yet (GT having been bought by a larger company).

Definitely not enough to live but a nice income nonetheless...

Yes, possibly something like that is happening.
I have got slightly further now though. I've managed to get my app running in Firefox. This time the app runs at approx. the right speed (a bit slow, but not too bad, say 80% frame rate), however it only does this for about a second, then it pauses for a few seconds, then runs for a second etc etc.
All very strange!!

Hmm, things like that used to happen 2 years ago with old ATI cards (or drivers). are you using one of these ?

Also, avoid putting too much heavy code in the constructor, and rely on the applet standard design patterns (init(), start(), stop(), destroy() )

Well, you definitely need to read some background about applets... so here are some hints...

Applet are meant to behave nicely within their browser, that's why you have to follow the init(), start() stop() and destroy() pattern.

An Applet is a general container (like JFrame) , so your GLCanvas should be added into it  (let's say ifrom the init() method).

Than the animator should get started from the applet.start() method, and stopped each time stop() is invoked (may happen many times, for example in FF when the user switches navigation tabs).

Hi !

There's a new Sudoku applet at javapause !

It's an old project of mine (I planned to add more features, like an online score by sudoku grid, but never had enough time for that).

If the game is appreciated, there will be new grids available every day (2 or three at least), as I've written a nice grid generator supporting various levels of difficulty.

Any feedback welcome !

Ken (or anyone else), could you have a look at the error log (from thijs) and suggest me something please ? I'm a bit lost  Huh

In the game, the canvas is added from the init() method of the applet, and removed from the destroy() method.
The game loop uses the FPSAnimator class, and animator.stop() is invoked from the applet.stop() method. (so everything should happen in the EDT)

I've tried to release every display list and texture objects before removing the canvas, but it doesn't change anything.
I've also tried not removing the canvas, but the crash also happens

The strange thing is that the game doesn't crash on exit when you just display the menu, and then change of page (it starts crashing only when the game has been displayed, even only for a few seconds of play).

I've also tried removing sound, but as expected it doesn't change anything.

I'm sure it's related to that game (Jack Flower doesn't crash on exit when played as an applet) but I don't know why...

Any ideas ?

if you just run Pack200 on the (signed) jogl.jar in the webstart archive, you'll get the same result as these .pack.gz files.

IIRC last year there was a repack needed between two signings (thus my request).

Also, thanks to the staff at O'Reilly, Pack200 compression is now enabled for JOGL. If you are running with a Java SE 5.0 or later Java Web Start or Java Plug-In client, you will automatically download the pack200-gzip compressed versions of the jar files, which are considerably smaller than the versions compressed with normal zip compression. We're additionally going to look into ways to reduce the size of jogl.jar even further.


Ken, is it possible to have access to these signed p200 gzipped files from the download section of jogl ?

I'd like to put them on my web server for JOGLAppletLauncher usage, and the best way to do that seems to get them from an official distribution, like the non p200 ones.

Hi,

I've refreshed my old game Zoltar's Return, and put it at JavaPause.com

This game is just now a proof of concept for JOGLAppletLauncher (I don't plan on improving it) and could be used to try and find bugs related to this technology.

Already tested here with Java 1.4 on mac, and 1.6 on win XP, (there are still some occasional crashes on page exit).

Any feedback welcome !

Hi,

Testing again a JOGL applet with latest JRE (1.6) and jogl 1.1 rc2,  the noddraw flag is never set (the message always come back at every browser restart, even if I reply yes)

I haven't been able to test it with an 1.5 version yet to see if if still works there.

can anyone test the jogl applet demo and report this behaviour here ? (https://jogl-demos.dev.java.net/applettest.html )

Hi, about ftp, the basic java.net.URL class can manage single files transfers

then you get an output stream with

out = cnx.getOutputStream()


and you can write your data into it.
(don't forget to close the connexion when you're done)
