That would be interresting to have a Technical / Graphics / Fun to play / Easy to run vote for each Game in Game ShowCase

Alsa it maybe interresting to have sub-section in ShowCase like :

ShowCase
=>Game
  =>Applet
  =>WebStart
  =>Others And/Or Heavy Application

=>Demo
  =>Applet
  =>WebStart
  =>Others And/Or Heavy Application

=>Wip
  =>Applet
  =>WebStart
  =>Others And/Or Heavy Application

why ? just because then I will be able to only look at Applet  Tongue

Nice idea.  But I can imagine the "Easy to run" category causing difficulties.  You could get stuck with a lot of bad votes in that category even after you fixed an initial deployment/compatibility bug.

I think it's not good approach to use categories for this, use tags instead. Some games are playable with more than one means and there could be many other tags (for different genres, single/multiplayer ability, 2d/3d, etc.).

yeh agreed this is a good idea but i don't think breaking it into even more smaller sub forums is the best way to go, i'd have to visit all 9 sub forums if i'd want to seem them all, maybe some sort of filter or as mentioned above tag system would be a better fit.

I'd kinda prefer this entire forum was collapsed into 5 or 6 main areas.

yup agreed, i'd start by merging the JOGL and LWJGL forums Grin since essentially they are both opengl bindings and both set of developers can pretty easily help each other, theres only minor api differences and most problems are related to OpenGL which applies to both bindings.

JOAL is pretty inactive forum and could get away with being merged with the JOGL/LWJGL forums since LWJGL also features OpenAL and again the developers from these bindings can help each other since they are similar api's.

Xith and JMonkey have their own highly active forums on their sites, not sure it makes sense having another for them on JGO, maybe they can be deleted and a link be put to their official forums.

I would also think Android would need a section since its an upcomming java platform (perdictions of 900% growth this year?) it will definietly have lots of games, so a section is a must, maybe have it joined with J2ME.

The above changes would go a long way in streamlining and simplifying the JGO forums.

I agree on the above, also the tag way or filter (filters sounds great for me) for ShowCase rather then dividing into sub-section may be interresting.

No it is a bad idea on my view as LWJGL is more than a simple OpenGL binding whereas JOGL is only a set of OpenGL bindings and the both OpenGL API for Java have a different reliability...  Grin Ok I stop joking (no more black screen here under LWJGL Wink).

well they are pretty similar as most questions for either lib are either regarding natives not being found or a general opengl question, which developers of both libs can pretty easily answer. As for lib specific questions (for JOGL, LWJGL, GL4Java) they are so few that IMO it doesn't really justify having separate forums. There are already too many sub forums and collapsing and merging a few shouldn't really have any negative effect.

Lips Sealed just wanted to insist IMHO about the necessity of a vote system in showcase (and maybe on other forum), any feedback about that ?

When we get more edit ability and I can change the PHP code in phpBB, I'll look into this. I think it's definitely a good idea to have both tags and to have a ratings system. Similarly, being able to order posts in the showcase section by rating, etc. will be very nice. Similarly being able to view them all in a different way (like via screenshots / title etc.) will be nice as well. I was thinking it'd be nice to have it sort of like Java Game Tone lite.
