hey yeah for starters, yes I know cheesy name. ok so basicly I mad ehtis game cause I wanted to make a shooter. Then After i had some physics done, I was like, hey might as well make some rpg elements as well. I also bit the bullet and learned php, for the server. The world is kinda empty right now, but npc is coming in the near ish future.\ there is one hitch I though people would find annoying, you got to register to play :/ but this is the easiest register in existence. all you do is just go to register page. Then all you have out fill out is username and password! no email verification, no nothing. well here is the website www.chroniclesofsurbania.webs.comthe jnlp link is on homepage. please give me your feedback. EDIT: It wont save your file if you just exit. If your account fails to save, post, I will fix it. dont worry the logout is SUPPOSED to take a long time. Screen shots!

It worked first time for me, and ran very smoothly.
While jumping I noticed (a) you go rather high and (b) instead of tracing a quadratic curve, the have constant velocity ascending and constant velocity descending. This makes it feel almost like a jetpack which runs out of fuel, rather than a standard platformy jump.
Also I noticed that when jumping through a gap which was 1 square wide I had to line up my character exactly in order to get through -- there was no tolerance for the space on either side.
What's the reason for registering by the way?
cheers,
josh

Okay but why log in, when it seems to be a standalone game -- is there going to be a networked version of it?

oh sry for slow reply. the undread messages sucks. you move with WSAD and shoot wiht space. ok version 1.0.1 would be out. Except that there is a bug in the newest version of slick, so I gotta wait for kev to get on that (yes I did post it in the bug section.) in taht version, I added a skill bar . I already had the skills made, except it was with the numbers ( il bet no1 found it , it is disabled now) will be out soon. EDIT: I guess that sort of is power ups. Also has anyone experienced a problem with drawing lines (and by extension, rectangles). It is quite irritating

I think he means how do the users on the server interact with each other
Basically, why do the players need to log in to play the game?

Well to be perfectly honest, I wanted to learn PHP. but I also am hoping to have some sort of multi player aspects. *fingers crossed*. this is just a hope though. I would have to make a server. Which I am not sure how to do it cause I am not hosting my server. if it can be done, then I will try, any tutorials or articles would be greatly appreciated P.S: just so you all know. I am learning with this project as I go along. So I may have some things that are just there cause I wanted to learn how.

Couldn't get past the login screen.
Won't bother with registering.
Most users will do the same anyway.

well, as I said. It is the fastest register ever. you just need ot give a username and password.
so to not want to play just because of that is kinda lazy (but understandable).

Making people register to play games is extremely retarded. No one wants to be forced to sign up for something they don't even know about. There's no screenshots, the website is poorly designed, and your applet sign has an error. For all I know it's a trick to get peoples passwords. I'm sorry, but this is awful design, and it does NOT make me look forward to trying this game, which I'm not going to even bother doing until I can do it as a guest.

for starters, I dont have an applet. I will add screen shots. btw, how can I steal a password by having you register? I will soon make a guest mode. in 1.1.1 I fix how the enemies are loaded. I dont think anyone figured this out, but the enemies were supposed to be different strengths. But the file was loaded wrong, and I fixed it. Or so I think

hmm, i cant seem to figure out why, but the game opens, then jsut closes straight away. It works fine in compiler. I will check if the names of files are correct and such. hope to fix it soon. in not-working version: guest mode I changed the pictures to spritesheets. I took out the "main menu", cause I realized it didnt do anything really :/ Soon updates: I thought of this as I was playing VE: How do you guys feel about a flying skill? it would cost like 5 mana, wich is how much you start out with, so people could test it in guest mode without having to level. I will attempt to change how all the movement works, so that I can make it a scroller . Then the levels wont be super tiny.
