Actually i had this idea for a long time. It will ask a programming from the site owner.
So it would be cool that topic starters in the showcase thread could to reward the repliers with special points depending on how a starter appreciate a replier's comment (how it is useful). Each topic starter should have 2 points to reward someone in the beginning. No additional points for a second, third ... started thread in the showcase. So to attract new visitors for their projects with free points count viewable for the every thread topic starters should earn these points by posting good comments on another projects of the showcase.

I just got a great and not new idea for reputation.
It should be calculated similar like Google PageRank.
I really think it's a great idea.

I think he wants the reputation of the person that rates another person to be taken into account, as the weight of that rating.

person.reputation += rating * voter.reputation

But then again, maybe not.

i do suppose that would atleast hinder someone from just repping for no reason. cause its likely that ppl who would od that wouldnt have very high rep Tongue

right Riven.
h3ckboy spamming would lead to negative reputation, as people will vote thumb down.

no, not necesarily spamming, the person getting repped might not even know. like someone who just goes and reps EVERYTHING, whether or not it is of good quality Smiley. I hope that made more sense?

I see no difference between spammers with reputation and spammers without one

sry, I might no tbe explaining this properly.

I m saying if a spammer goes and gives random OTHER ppl rep for no reason, it would completely invalidate the system? is that better?

you better first learn how PageRank is calculated.
this absolutely will not crash the system

I kno how pagerank works, it is a combination of word hits along with how many times that site is sited on other sites, and also taking into account the pagerank of those sites.

Sites like devshed only allow people to give as much rep as they have and can only give a certain amount per day, I do think it is a good system as it gives you a way to thank someone or agree without having to post an entire post just to say "Thanks." Also rep does not really mean anything, it is just a nice way to thank people or unthank them Tongue
