Hi, I'm going on holiday over january and february - US in january and Europe in february! It's very exciting If anyone wants to meet up for a drink and a chat, I'd be very happy. So far I'm going to San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and New York. I haven't booked the European part of the trip yet. I'm backpacking on my own, spending about 4 days in each city and staying in hostels. I heard on the news that Europe is particularly freezing. The last time I went on a big adventure holiday I met up with Adam Martin (blahhblahblah on the forums) in London which was great. See you soon! Keith

I can also probably (depends on the day) meet up in San Fran (live in Mountain View).
I met Demonpants at the Global Game Jam and wouldn't mind catching up with him again. Maybe the three of us can get together for a coffee.
Warning: Also a Kiwi

Ah, perfect idea. Maybe the two of us would also be able to talk when not surrounded by a 48h deadline.

We are on our last jar of Vegemite (much better than Marmite ). I haven't been back to NZ for 3 years. Oddly I didn't think I had a preference until I moved over here and my Vegimite ran out. Luckily there are a couple of stores that sell it (and English marmite - which has the consistency of golden syrup). My flatmate is also on his way back from NZ as I post and is under instructions to deliver an industrial sized tub of Vegimite (hopefully wont be confiscated at the border as a chemical weapon).

Any day between the 13th and the 16th would work okay. Preferably we'd do something during lunch hour so that I don't have to come home too late or come in too early. What works for you, Shannon?

Sensational! Can't wait. I'll send you a PM as soon as i sort out the flights to england I can't make a lunch hour during a week day, but either Saturday or Sunday would be fine.
Cool, anytime saturday would be fun. On sunday I have to get a flight around midday which might be a stress out. San francisco sounds like a cool city, everyone I talk to about it says it's very chilled out and pretty. And it's got silicon valley! A must see. By the way, no sweat if you (or anyone) gets too busy and can't make it. It's hard to squeeze random meetings into working life so if your plans fall through, that's fine, no love lost

I just need to have it set up beforehand. I'll need to come up with something else to do in the city that day, though, or it might be sort of random coming into SF for 15 minutes or whatever and then just leaving again. Anyway just give me a time and I'll work something out. Maybe I'll visit a coworker or something afterwards.

PS: RyanAir is unbelievable, flights around europe for 1 pound www.ryanair.comExcept they're not - they rack up the price with hidden costs. They'll charge you for luggage, they'll charge you the carbon tax, they'll charge you to check in, and they'll charge you if you pay with anything other than their 'preferred' card (some super obscure Mastercard variant IIRC). All smallish costs individually but by the end you've paid pretty close to a standard ticket anyway.

They also land at airports more than an hour away from the "listed" destination and usually run the only taxi service into the nearest city. Add to that they now even charge to use the toilet, and that the 1 pound flights may in fact only be 4 seats per plane at 1 pound + lots of extras (any luggage at all --IIRC even carry on). A few friends of mine got stuck when RyneAir canceled a flight due to "fog" at the destination airport, they had people waiting at that airport and it was a perfect day with no wind or cloud.....
I don't use them. I did use skyeurope till they went under. Otherwise German wings and Berlin air are pretty good. Basically if they land at an airport that is properly serviced you can't get shafted too much. But may still charge for any non carry on luggage now (ie German wings does now).

I guess it's not surprising that's too good to be true.
Still, probably better than paying $80 just to fly across California?
This past holiday it cost me $700+ to fly roundtrip from California to Connecticut (pretty much across country).
