I reckon Cas should have gone ahead without prizes. Bit late for 2005 now and the 2006 4K compo is probably next. Still I enjoyed writing my non-entry (SharpShooter16k), and Rick produced a very playable starship race game (Race 16k) so there is definitely potential in the LWJGL 16k format.
